I understand that another factor causing belt deterioration is oil which has seeped through the shaft seals. Like others with early cars, I have put 1/16" spacers between the cam belt cover and the block to allow any oil to escape. I know that this will allow dust in but given that many toothed cam belts run in the open, this cannot be regarded by the belt/pulley makers as a problem. I also had the cam pulley upgrade kit fitted (S&S Part Number 370-0015 from Matts Machine Shop UK - They will send outside the UK as well - mine was sent to France http://mattsmachineshop.co.uk/the-shop/). The price of the kit is £86.95 + Tax.

I ordered a new pulley cover directly from S&S and this is what they sent. I used the correct part number, which was also on the packing list for the part. Good job S&S. I plan to visit them in person in an attempt to get an exchange for the correct cover. Cover cost was $377.US

As it turns out, I had submitted the wrong part number, my bad. S&S is working to help me get the correct cover. (mmmm, eating crow)
