Today I tried making my own custom blend by combining 5 gallons of ethanol free 101 octane with another 10 gallons of the 93, resulting in just over 95 octane ethanol free. Did this with the DB7, and boy could I tell the difference driving home. They sell up to 110 Octane, but only in 5 gallon cans. I'm now curious if my 65 Plus 4 would do well with a 95+ mix.

Just to clarify for all in Europe who are not in the know, 93 octane in the US is measured in AON = (ROZ + MOZ) / 2 and it is equivalent to European 98 octane ROZ.

That's news to me. I've been losing sleep over not being able to get easy access to anything above 93. Why in the world can't we have words mean the same thing on both sides of the pond? It's not like we are talking English vs. Metric Octane! At least a Meter is a Meter wherever you go.

Also love, peace and freedom is about the same here and there smile

In America, a gallon is equivalent to 128 fluid ounces or 3.785 liters (American spelling). But in the UK, it's 160 fluid ounces or 4.546 litres (British spelling).
The British Imperial pint is 568.261 ml (20 fluid ounces), while the US Customary pint is 473.176 ml (16 fl oz).

At least a liter is the same as a litre smile

PS. And a meter is a metre long rofl

And yes it's oh so cheap in the USA. Did 3705 miles in the USA in 5 weeks in the +8 last Autumn/Fall. All converted to UK metrics 140 gallons 636 litres for £450 (US$589). 71p a litre for USA 93 - 98 UK octane.

Big problem with high ethanol content for the classic car and motorbike scene. Lots of evidence to show it destroys fuel lines from the inside out, seals, tanks and even carburettors have been wrecked by it.. I also notice that petrol really stains paintwork now if left on it for any time.

A mate has a 1927 AJS with a flat tank..leaks all over the show on the seams that we all believe are caused by ethanol attacking the soldered joints. Nasty stuff indeed.

More modern fuel lines etc ought to be resistant but worth keeping an eye on just in case. The plans are to increase the % so it can only get worse.

I also get fuel from stations with a high turnover and if a car or bike is to be left standing over winter, best to use some additive to the fuel.

Yes the ethanol part is increasing. When I visit my daughter in Trier I fill the car with petrol in Luxembourg, much cheaper and round the corner. What is new to me, now you can get only 98 octane with 5% ethanol in LU. 95 octane is only available with 10% of ethanol. So I go for 98 octane with 5%. In Germany 95 with 5% ethanol is still an offer.

You are right Heinz, it's the same thing here in France. 98 octane is now with 5% ethanol maximum and 95 octane with 10% maximum so keep care. These are maximum authorized but you canot know precisely which % is included at the station as there is no indication. Silly green bashing !

Jacques at least the amount of ethanol is indicated at the pump in Luxembourg.

I don't want to do a thread kidnapping. But I really wonder what this is all about. The more ethanol there is in petrol, the less energy the engine gets. The less power it has and the more fuel it consumes. What is the point of using 10% ethanol in the engine to consume 10% more of fuel and cutting down the tropical forest?

I noticed my local Shell filling station now shows 5% ethanol label on both petrol variants.
Wonder how long the fuel pipes on my 07 MINI will last now...
As for the Morgan, will have to replace all the pipework.
