Yes - and the long drag going north from Nolton Haven. Just measured it on Google Maps. Looks like exactly a mile of steep, steep road. Better charge the battery that night.

Have you had Sunday lunch in the The Cambrian Inn in Solva?? It is one of the best I have ever had, as long as they are still doing it as part of their summer menu.

Exactly. They are also restricted to 250W and must cut assistance over 20kph. An e-bike that does not require the rider to pedal must be taxed an insured like a motorcycle.

Modifying the pedelec to get more speed has to be the challenge!

But why buy a pedelec anyway? Wont social services give you a mobility scooter for free?

Anyway, never mind a weedy leccy bike, how about one of these from last Sundays classics show [Linked Image]

Capacity is 5 litres, noise is unbelievable, each cylinder is from an old radial aero engine and the bike is hand made by the rider.

There are kits to do it, but it's not really necessary. Because they provide assistance at lower speeds, it means that it's easy to get up to decent cruising speed, 15 to 20mph on a pushbike is plenty without worrying about having to wear any protective clothing. Once you are going downhill, the additional weight means you can go really quite fast enough, I regularly crack 30mph on a long downhill near me.

Pedelecs have one massive advantage over cars or motorcycles - they are perfect pub transport.

That's right Hamwich..there is a discreet box of tricks called a Speedbox that overrides the limiter on the electric motor.

Illegal in the Uk as 15.5 mph is the absolute max before it is classed as a moped and requires license, helmet, insurance etc.

I have tried a Bosch engine mountain bike with the Speedbox and achieved 37mph on the flat !!!

Remember you still have to pedal and max speed depends on gearing and your fitness..it will also drain the battery quicker.
