Push the nozzle all the way in, fill slowly till pump cuts out. Wait 10sec pull nozzle back part way & fill slowly till cuts out & repeat once. Leave the locking cap off & hinged cap not latched, go & pay. Return fit locking cap & latch hinged cap & drive away. Sloping forecourts likely mean you will get less fuel in & mess up you mpg calcs.
Before I adopted this method I have had rough running for several miles, engine cutting out after a few seconds & the engine warning light on. Never had total failure to start after fuelling.

We find that shaking the car with the roll hoops after the first click helps ensure the tanks are both filling....this can enable several extra litres (and hence a sensible range) before another click to finish off...nozzle always fully in...not yet seen any of the over-filling problems mentioned but ours is very early version so may have some peculiarities in execution.

Just musing over the issues here it seems that the large bore balance pipe between tanks is not a problem. Rather more that tank breathers and associated carbon filters and rollover valve restrict balancing between tanks and cause over pressuring to engine.

I put the filler all tne way in, pull the handle back 50% til it stops. Give the hoops a jiggle, and repeat once. I leave the plug out as I finish my transaction at the pump.I have never had a rough running isdue after a fill up.

I first read this as filing your fuel tank - I wondered why would you want to file your fuel tank - then it occurred to me obviously to de-burr it.

Read what you want to read huh!!

This was particularly helpful to me as well. Today I filled the tanks but my gas station put in new pumps that have a very sensitive shutoff mechanism and even though I had driven almost 60 miles it would not take fuel! So, I had to lift the nozzle out of the tank about half way to get the pump to work. It was pretty touchy and took three tries to shut off properly, BUT on the ride home the check engine light came on intermittently. Must have been the fuel thing and I will be mindful in the future. 🤬

I shall leave the filler cap open for a while after fueling. Most of the instances of fuel mist on the windshield that I've experienced have been immediately after refueling. This is in line with Richard Wood's comment about vent restrictions. Thanks for the insight.

The fuel leak situation was due to my using screw-type (not worm screw) hose clamps on the injector hose barb without thread locker on the threads. I feel better now that there's a plausible theory for the puzzling coincidence of leaking with gassing up.

I fill it up for 10-15 seconds then stop for a few to let air out of the tank. Repeat until full. Usually use the nozzle to hold open the aluminum flap for a few seconds to let air out. No issues ever.
