while the engine is out, i'm not sure whether I have to replace the clutch (of course it's always a good idea, but also another 400€ ..)

Did anyone know the thickness of a new friction disk , my is around 7,5mm ..., never had problems with the clutch before .

I am no mechanic but that clutch does not look to be in good condition.

Agree with Felix42, that does not look good. Age of the car should not be a factor. What does the starter ring look like?
It would be good to see what others are like when they are removed or inspected.
Is it possible to get the friction material replaced?

I too am no mechanic but I have seen many clutches and if it were mine I would replace the disc and pressure plate and while in there replace the throw out bearing. The disc looks torn and the pressure plate looks glazed and perhaps had oil baked into the surface.

Like it might have been chattering to get that skipping appearance on the p plate.

Change centre plate, cover and bearing while you are in there, its not worth messing about with it and by the looks of it needs doing anyway.

That has had a very hard time it's best to take the opportunity to swap the whole thing out now to avoid future strip downs. Which is exactly what you are thinking I guess.

That pressure plate looks like it's been getting quite hot, the uneven marks & heat spots are not a good sign

As others have said it's advisable to replace all 3 parts, in a kit, I don't know the spec or OE manufacturer but LUK have a good reputation (could be MX5 clutch ?)

Has anyone figured out if a Miata clutch will work. I thought the factory Morgan set up was not from Mazda.

ckecked that shortly, all the Miata clutches I found has an outer diameter of at least 200mm, the M3W clutch has 180mm ...
