.... The grockles are about & about...... Known as HMs here. Although the days when every third car was a slightly baffled H(ire) car are long long gone. Do you no longer have the Horror cars out there then, I've spent many miles on business out there in one back in the day the last time would have been 2000.

The A36 into Salisbury was busy at 9am when it is normally empty: I went into town to do some shopping and have the car hand washed. They did a super job! I still think Tarka is the best 4.8L Plus 8 on the road, as the miles tick by she just goes on, effortlessly. I passed 40,000 miles last week.
I got all that I'd intended to buy and drove home, the traffic had built up for about a couple of miles, probably 15 min delay. Driving back there was no traffic.
The rest of the weekend is "stay at home". One of the joys of retirement is that playtime isn't limited to the weekend and bank holidays!

Had fun playing with a few bikes 😎

Only about 75 miles today. Only problem was it was to get to local hostelry about 4 miles away. Truth be told I went to pick up an old mate in his 60’s with v dodgy knees and hips, from Stamford who had never been in a Morgan before and thought I would take him for a little trip via Collyweston, Oakham, Cottesmore and others. Nice lunch at the pub and accidentally took long route cross country to take him back to Stamford. Occasional loud pedal in operation which he thought was jolly good fun. He loved the Morgan!!!! After dropping him off, stopped off to fill up and an old chap with a rebuilt Capri pulled up to the pump behind mine, walked over to me and started to talk about his 1975 4/4 and showed me pictures. Throughout the day, especially at the pub, people were saying how lovely Florence was. One old boy even rushed over to point out that my guests door was open. I had to explain it just looked like that and wasn’t meant to be flush with the bodywork (but nice of him to stumble over). Lucky lucky me HB

Sounds to be very similar to the Bodensee aria. We took the tin top and that was a good decision because the roads are packed. We use bycicles to reach the boat and stay outside as long as possible.
Looking foreward to nice touring in lovely September;-)

We went to Mumbles this evening. Took Monty too. We had a sandwich and ice cream in Verdi’s sitting outside. A walk to the pier and out to the lifeboat station. Nice view across Swansea bay. Great weather today so left it ‘til evening due to being too hot for Monty. Most traffic was in opposite direction too due to the time.

Only managed 28 miles, I had bought a new GoPro camera, in the hope of recording some of my favourite roads hereabouts, though they can be busy this time of year with tourists, and 15:00hrs was NOT a good time when seeking to find reasonably clear roads.. At least I got an idea of just how well the camera might operate, it exceeded my hopes, though need to work out some way of recording the sound better, and battery life seems to be a bit of an issue... hmm. Interesting run though as I spotted an American vintage car coming in the opposite direction must grab a still from the vid to try to get it identified.. Waves exchanged of course...

Last Tuesday, I drove to Valberg, a ski resort in the Alpes-Maritimes. No snow at the moment, but it was surprisingly packed with people; they have a dry toboggan run and stuff like that. There were three of us, me in my 4/4, a chap with a very nice fully-restored Healey 3000 and my friend with his faux Bugatti. We ascended from near Entrevaux via les Gorges de Daluis (River Var) and descended on the eastern side via the Gorges de Cians. The River Cians is a tributary of the River Var which flows into the Med to the west of Nice Airport. The two gorges are remarkably different geologically and both are spectacular.
On the ascent, I stopped in a layby just before Valberg and then the Healey stopped behind me. I intended to take a photo of the two cars together, while we waited for the third car. But then an elderly (ie older than me) German lady came over and told her grand-daughter or great-grand-daughter to take a photo of my car and told her how wonderful my car was. She addressed me in English, even though my car has a French registration plate, and told me that she had once visited the factory in Malvern. She asked if Peter Morgan was still running the company. I explained that he had died some years ago and gave a potted history of the MMC since then. When I got home, I checked on the internet and was surprised by two things: 1) Peter Morgan's centenary is approaching. 2) We share a birthday.
The elderly lady then addressed, in French, the driver of the Healey, which has a Monaco registration. Confused by all this, I forgot to take any photos. Damn!

Just back from Britian! Yesterday exactly 777KM from the hotel in Greenwich to my home. In one rush. That was nearly overdone, in cause two points. At first waiting two hours for the ferry, at second I want to explore a new route. From Begium to Germany the A60 via Prüm. A60? Great, it's around the corner, the map shows me: finish in 2019, the satnav knows it also. In the late evening: the satnav: follow the route. But: no route... Only small B-roads. It went dark, the screen full of killed flies in the Eifel. If someone knows about "The Ring", he knows what I mean. But it's done. The days before: day 1) 300KMs from my home to the Mosel, a little bit travelling around, parttime the hod down. Day2) fast way to the ferry and Britain, Motorway, hod up to Canterbury. 500KMs, not enough for a day, so let's drive to the sea (Herne Bay) for a beer. Day3) have a look in at BHM and MotoLita and than to Hambledown. The stag and the huntsman is not only a nice pub, they've got a good meal and great rooms. On the way I miss the right way and the satnav shows me a realy bad new one. Two times the Mog hits the ground. Again about 300KM. Day4) A day in the factory Day5) around in the Cotswolds, hod down and a great day with a lot of miles anjoy the MOG and the landscape, I think about 250KM again. Day6) from the Cotswolds to the Chilterns not the straight way, hod down and a mix of B-roads and small B-roads. On this way I "submarined" the Mog FULLY!!! (that' s a own story) and spotted a few miles later a shiny white MOG in the area of Amersham. Kilometres, don't know... Day7) from the Chilterns again to BHM for the service and a respray for the wing and one week mogless in London. Summary: my wife is happy with the size of the luggagebay, the comfort and if I drive with a light foot also with the sound and the fueleconomy.
Next time out? Not far away ;-)
