Bruce, I have about 2500 km on the M3W and keep the clutch fully depressed while reaching higher revs. I use the handbrake and release the handbreak and clutch at the same time. Rune

Does your clutch start engaging the minute the pedal is leaving the floor or does it engage out toward the end of its movement? Right off the floor is not good, end of movement is better.
Right off the floor could mean that the clutch is being slightly depressed allowing for slip.
More or less in the middle, I think. Rune

sounds like it happens to three of us.... and only when I start up and I am not riding the clutch either

I get the smell on botched shifts. Revs aren't right or I lift off the clutch too slowly.

I probably am revving too high as I pull out on a hill. but a stalled engine is no fun either. Probably the same usecase. However, I am really trying to avoid it by being careful, but no success! ...and I do not have this problem with ordinary cars..

this is the first time I have ever smelled a clutch as well.
