- that S1 looks good Lancman thumbs

[Linked Image]

Good colour combination and popular ; not sure about the treads on the running boards......

A few S1 owners have had side pipes fitted by exhaust specialists at (I understand) reasonable cost - might be an option for you ?

Interesting ad. further down for an "Aero 8 America" which appears to be a modified S3 -

I have not seen this version before; wheels and wing vents look interesting......

Very strong money for that Aero 8 "america" - but then reading the blurb it's a very rare beast indeed; one of only 11 in the US.

That S1 looks like a good example. I think that blue suits the car very well. I would be terrified of kerbing one of the alloys on an S1.

Just a minor point, I have twin side pipes on my S1 which I had fitted when I bought it. They look awesome and sound thunderous. I can't get on with finding a way to post pics on this forum, so pm me if you'd like to see a photo. Cost to fit was less than £1000 and they save about 30kg in weight

Alistair, not sure about the S5 having same platform as the S4, the S5 had totally revised suspension, no longer inboard and had additional strengthening of the chassis, mine steered much more positively than my S3 which I put down to this.

Open to correction, I just loved them all so may have missed a few things.

Series 1 ran for some time
286hp 4.4,
5 speed box,
centrelock wheels,
mostly low gangster hood but changed over time.
low boot but smaller
Narrow body within same width, small gap between steering wheel and door made for worry when adding a dab of oppo' for me.
VW lamps
Lighter and definately leads you to ragging it like a rental.

Insert GTN as a Series 1 AMG model with 4.6L and some changes around the suspension. Most holigan option, 10 made.

Series 2 was actually quite a make over to allow them to sell it in the USA.
Not many made and difficult to find
Next gen 4.4L with single variocam and 330 bhp
6 Speed box with nicer change
Uprated brakes with less fade
std wheels
Pram hood but better sealing potential (they all do that) , not so gangster 8(
Same road width but wider internals as doors moved out and running boards made more narrow.
More room around the wheel for those entertaining moments officer.
Petrol tank moved for US rear impact rules, rear boot line raised to give different rear look but bigger boot and shelf behind seats
VW Lamps, option of SIDEPIPES! from GTN

Series 3.
Mostly Series 2 but laser eyesight correction from the Mini headlamps.
Different wheels from factory
Sames engine,box,brakes,etc

Insert AeroMax, pretty.

Series 4
Lots of upgrades from the AeroMax development.
Single peice superform front wings/boards for easier access to service
4.8L double variocam V8 360+bhp
Auto option
Different cooling (gaps in front wings)
Updated interior
Double sidepipes, ha ha ha ha ha ha - drive by car alam attacks, neighbours muttering, big thumbs up from bikers.

Supersport (Targa) and Coupe (still leaks)
Series 5 All mostly S4 running platform with new body.

... and anti-roll bars, so a very different set up on the S5 from earlier cars.

Carbon hardtops were offered as extras, and as standard on the eight GTs

And it's almost possible to stop an S5 from leaking!

(otherwise, that list's spot on :-) )

You are absolutely right Gareth, my lack of attention at that moment. I was focusing on the S1-3 end to help Lanc and my tiny braincell was overextened by that point!

Thanks everyone for all the advice, information and all the differences. On hold at the moment due to bereavement but have my searches saved so if anything pops up I'll know. Definitely not something that I've seen being sold privately, which is really unusual.

Treads on the Runningboards are a good thing as when/if some nut jumps up and down on the boards the treads protect them !
