To stop smoking is a very simple procedure: you just do not lite the single next cigarette! That is the only secret: not to lite this next one.
Watch out not to gain weight and be aware: it is a tough challenge, but many have achieved it, even I did it. Reducing smoking is not bad for you but if you want to stop: make a clear cut. No excuse - just stop.
For the first 3 weeks get some Nicurette chewing gum. Helps to change your habits but can still provide some nicotin when life gets too taff.

I used to be a regular smoker, gave up, started again, gave up etc.
Now I'm an occasional smoker. Got through about 30 at a bike rally three weeks ago, but haven't had one since. Got a big alumni weekend coming up at the end of September, so will probably get through a pack of 20 over the weekend. After that, it may well be Spring before I have my next one.
Often find if I'm tinkering in the shed on bikes or cars, a sit down and a cheeky fag is often enough for me solve a problem/issue....

Smoked from the age of 9 until I was 46, gave up cigarettes at 28 but lasted only 9 months then onto cigars, 15 a day.... Try using all the chewing gums, patches, sprays and if they fail (did with me) then vape, not ideal but far better than smoking, it's not nicotine that kills (although in 10 years time I'm sure they will say it does). Walking helped me the main thing is to change your routines and dont worry about failing you can always try again and again and again...

My Dad stopped smoking when he was just over 60.This because my Mum got problems with her lungs and Dad was not allowed to smoke indoors anymore. He smoked one a day, half in the morning and the other half in the afternoon.Because of implants in his mouth he was not allowed to smoke for 3 months and never started again..Dad is still with us and will be 85 next month.Allthough he suffers COPD,the specialist told him that was probably not alive anymore if he had not stopped smoking over 20 years ago.Bottomline, never too late to stop!

Hi Heinz I smoked cigarettes from 1983 to 2000 then cigars until 4th August 2013. From 4th August 2013 until 5th July 2019 I was a vaper with no cigars/cigarettes at all. Am due an operation on an ankle requiring general anaesthetic followed by several weeks in plaster so, in all honesty, only stopped the vaping because the surgeon said I had to as it would cause problems with recovery and potential post operation infections with poor circulation. Thus I’m now without any form of nicotine for the first time in my life since age of 16 to 52. About 8 weeks of cold turkey and I won’t lie it’s been tough but have stuck with it. I tried over the years hypnotherapy, nicotine chewing gum, anti smoking drugs, willpower and none worked. The closest was Alan Carr’s book “ “Easyway....” and it was only stress/mild depression due to work/bad back that caused me to give in again after three weeks or so. Vaping definitely 100% worked for me, no question, but giving that up is rumoured to be even harder than giving up the actual weed. But vaping can’t be as unhealthy as actual smoking in my opinion. It does get easier saying no but still have the desire fairly regularly and just have to be strong. V best wishes for your success in giving up. HB

E cigs, forget em patches forget em Hypnotherapy, forget it. You will only stop smoking when you really want to. If you kid yourself you want to stop and try the gimmicks you will be back on them. Cold turkey is the only way. I smoked for around 20 years from 16, considered myself a professional smoker even, loved it Then after a few failed attempts one day I just decided in my head enough was enough. Havent smoked since 2003

Did you actually try hypnotherapy Bonesie? It's true it may not work for everyone but it can be effective for many.
I suffered from a debilitating phobia for most of my life and found myself with an urgent need to rid myself of it. Two sessions with a hypnotherapist and it was gone. I was sceptical but it was my last resort and I'm a convert now. I think it's a shame there isn't more scientific study into how the process works.

I agree re hypnotherapy being something that does work. I had an issue which it fixed. It does not work for everyone but it's worth a try.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
