No travelling today but lots of good food and wine and then some more good food and wine.
The hotel I'm staying at is extremely pleasant though the nearest good restaurant that I've found is almost three minutes stroll from the hotel drawbridge. another criticism is that they don't have secure parking as such but their general attitude to security seems quite acceptable;

and they do at least try to match the flowers to the car;

After a bit of a silence for many varied and not terribly good reasons I now find myself in a hotel some 100km or so from Bilbao which, by lucky coincidence is where I get the boat across to Portsmouth tomorrow afternoon, so to continue the saga...

The journey on from Chaves started well on some interesting back roads through many vineyards with the promise of a stop or two to investigate further till a certain yellow warning light flickered, disappeared and intermittently came back. ProTune said it was high battery voltage but wasn't showing on the voltmeter till after a stop for photos suddenly not enough volts for the starter. After a downhill bump start and change of route from interesting to dull but shorter roads a few miles were covered before the battery was obviously not going to get me to Caramulo so it was time to park up and fit the spare regulator and hook up the booster pack to get some volts back in the battery.. This was going well till I realised that said spare regulator instead of having one short black lead to earth and one long black lead to the positive connector had two basically identical long black leads...you can guess which way round I got them. Bugger. After a very few more miles it was apparent that things were not as they should be and another stop was had to try them the other way round.
Success!
Sort of.
But not really.
Charging voltage was now running at between 13.2 and 13.6V or thereabouts which did not exactly give that warm, confident feeling. But it got me to Caramulo.

Once at Caramulo, food was eaten and some wine drunk and then found out that not only was there a parade session on the hillclimb on the Friday afternoon but I had actually signed up for it. Doesn't sound that exciting except the organiser's idea of a parade is to close the roads, don't put out the chicanes, have marshals in place and a man at the start line to tell you when to just go for it. Great fun and by the size of the grins on people's faces as they got out at the top assembly area I wasn't the only one enjoying the parade, but then everyone loves a parade don't they?

At the top of the climb;

A wander was then had round part of the museum, apparently lots of people like these;

Then it was off to meet Mario and family at their home near Caramulo
The view from the patio of Mario and Leo's home in Santa Comba Dão;

Things got tricky again on the way to Santa Comba Dão with the voltage climbing up through the normal 14.5 range up to 17 then on up to 19V which gave another yellow warning light and a red one just as a misfire set in so...stop at side of road...swear...start up again...14V! Carry on to Mario's, meet everyone then back up to Caramulo with a plot hatching for getting home...
