Strangely enough I fixed one of mine by sleeving the outer part and fitting a pin through the connection. Worked well till I hit a tree!

Thanks everyone for the input. After listening to the noise carefully and going through all the relevant bolts I’ve concluded the noise must be coming from the underside of the mudguard. The three “arms” that hold it in place seem to be welded to the underside with 1-2”x3-4” tabs, and it sounds like the middle one has either loosened up or bent a bit and is making odd contact with the mudguard itself. I don’t have a jack to take the wheel off and can’t get easy access to remove the bolts to loosen up the mudguard myself. Might be a job for the dealer as I’m not much of a mechanic.

Does this sound plausible?

If its in warranty a dealer should look at it. Dont understand why you say you cannot get easy access to the bolts. There are 3 on the wheel hub & 2 screws on the stay. I've not taken mine off but I have loosened the bolts to get the wheel off.

Didn't damage the repaired mudguard by hitting the tree but destroyed the other one. Insurance replaced the destroyed one but I replaced the repaired one so that they matched.

The is one of the three near the hub that is a buggar to get back into place because of the tight clearance. I have done it twice and I always dread that one.

From just looking and giving it a quick try with a socket wrench and an adjustable wrench I got the feeling that these bolts would be hard for me to loosen up. Clearance seems to be the biggest issue. Also any time I try to remove a bolt myself I manage to scratch the paint on nearby parts. Removing and replacing the rectifier was my first experience with this. While I managed, I imagine the dealer has the right tools or tricks to remove with ease.

Unfortunately I'm not under warranty but will have them look anyways since welding isn't in my wheelhouse.

Thanks for the tips - helps to know I'm on the right track!

You need open end and box end wrenches to get to that area, nothing adjustable or a ratchet unless you find a box end ratchet that is small enough.

And the tool list grows! That makes sense though. Looks much more manageable with one of those two. Thanks again
