Thanks for the info 3Gs.

Did the shocks make a noticeable difference in ride?

I bought my M3W with the Suplex so no comparison to go on, but I have the stock shocks in a box.

I wonder if the previous owner changed them because of the ride quality or they thought that it would make them go faster in the corners😊. The Spax that are on mine oem seem to work fine the way I drive it. Admittedly I don’t race it and don’t plan to do so since I know my mini coopers would run circles around this loosely associated bag of bolts.

I was looking at how the gas tank straps go around some square box tubing and how they use the corners of the tube as a pulley. Creative to say the least but MMC decided that only part of the strap needed to go around a smooth corner and the last maybe half inch of it goes around a sharp edge that doesn’t even appear to be filed smooth! Both straps are like that; someone should be spanked for that!

You can also adjust the ride height with the new shocks, my rear was very low while traveling with a passenger and luggage.

I put a piece of a fuel hose around that square bracket and it feel much more secure now smile

For those of you with far more experience than I...what is the best way to visualize this area? When seats are out, there is the aluminum panel behind that appears riveted...easily removed? With all the nooks and crannies in this beast, thinking of getting a small endoscopic camera for continued inspection purposes...

The first photo shows the strap in question and the second is looking straight down from the top where the box tube is bevel cut and the strap wraps around that cut, sadly.

KankeL, I thought about doing something like that, with maybe teflon or PTFE to armor that sharp corner to protect the strap.

Nice photos, LightSpeed. Was able to get back there and found a loose belt on the left side. Of course you need a deep socket to reach (13 mm) but was able to tighten. As was previously mentioned, there is not much length left on the bolt and no clue how tight to make the belt. As I left it, I can elevate the top of the belt mid-tank with a finger, but not get my finger very far under (these back-of-the-envelope tolerances we use!). Hopefully that is enough, as I also thought to shim with some rubber against the tank. Curious how tight others have made theirs.

Then tension is a good question, and something I know not.

Rubber shims, maybe but the belt won’t slide over them but a plywood shin would allow the belt to slip over it for tensioning.

Be careful with the adjuster - it’s made out of cheese and would snap easily. Loosen the belt and use some shims and then re-tighten.
