Hi Everybody. Does anyone out there know the part number of a suitable ignition coil for a 1994 +8? My car is on its original coil, a Bosch 1220 522 011. It is now producing symptoms which indicate that the coil needs replacing. The Bosch web sites do not recognise the part number so it is probably obsolete but I cannot find the part number which would have replaced it. Second hand coils are available on auction sites but you do not know how long it will last. Buying from a motor factors will be cheaper than from a main dealer if I know the part number. So what's your coil number? Doesn't have to be Bosch. Thanks.

Try Bosch #0221122392. It is a direct replacement for the original Bosch Coil, obtainable here in the US not sure about the UK?

Thanks for the info. Try Bosch #0221122392. It is a direct replacement for the original Bosch Coil, obtainable here in the US not sure about the UK? Yes Britmog, this Bosch coil is available in the UK and I have one on the way now. Bosch list this for the 3.9 lit Range Rover so it should be correct. I can't see Morgan re-working the electrics when the Rover people have done all the work for them!

The engine harness on a hotwire Plus 8 is straight from Land Rover, engine electrics, including ignition is as per Land Rover.
At one point I suspected an issue with a coil and spent some time testing coils I had used from Bosch, Intermotor, and a generic coil from CCL. In general the inductance of primary and secondary was the same, coil ratio the same. The resistance of primary and secondary varies with temperature, the three coils demonstrated a similar change in resistance from room temperature up to 100 degrees C. I was trying to see if I could make the coils fail, but they resisted my attempt.
Finally I found the issue (occasional confused.com running, and the odd failure to start) was due to the pick up coil in the distributor. To measure the gap between coil and toothed rotor I used a piece of thick card, this had the inadvertent effect of also cleaning the surfaces, and from that day the issue was resolved, although I did replace the pickup as a precaution.
The other ignition problem I have had on the Plus 8 is the fairly common problem with rotor arms, I did buy a stock of the 'good' rotor arms.
I am currently running a Bosch 0 221 122 392 coil

Ditch the ignition coil and distributor, fit a crank sensor and coil pack for better reliability and smoother running..
