I researched it and concluded that it was simply different mapping. No component changes just map parameters modified. This ability to tweak mapping is the basis of the aftermarket chipping business. The true correct way is for a rewrite of the map under both static and on road driving. Small gains only in a normally aspirated engine but turbo allows more by increasing boost as well. Bigger power increases require new cams, valves, other component changes.
For the Plus8 I think the Tornado chip is a proven remap modification that can increase power and improve general running characteristics and cure some faults.

I agree. The MSD EFI has a MAP that is designed by the Computer based on the Driver's input and what the engine has to offer. (At least I think this is what makes it unique - not sure of anything). As I drive along the MSD EFI learns and remembers what I am asking of it. A EFI designed to regulate emissions and mpg does just that but it may sacrifice performance to achieve this. This is My suspicion of the Rover HotWire and GEMS system.

Button: You are correct with the Hotwire ECU, however, if you replace the chip with a Tornado Chip you open up the system to be adaptive and learn. It makes a difference as long as you change the other components too allowing the engine to breath/fart and enjoy itself!!

Don't understand the "Tornado Chip" yet. But it must revise the MAP to something more suitable for a light Sports Car.

I have two modifications in My Mind to adapt My MSD TB EFI to insure it is supplied with cool, fresh air and not engine compartment air. 1. Build duct work from above the radiator to the big round carb type air filter. 2. Buy or fabricate a housing for the top of the MSD Unit and pipe it into the Rover Filter (sealing off the heat riser hole) and locate the Venturi Mouth just in front and above the rad. And then monitor the AIT Temp on the MSD handheld to ascertain how close this temp is to ambient temp.

Button, you will find this interesting on re-chipping, etc.

Here is My next to best remedy for the cold air caper. I will monitor My MSD Handheld and try to keep track of AIT (Air intake temp). I head for Flog Mog in Northern California tomorrow and will report enroute or when I get back to Seattle.

As the weather was so poor this weekend I decided I would finally add the side scoop to the Roadster airbox, this picks up air from the bonnet side louvers

2,500 miles. AIT 104F Eng temp 190F all + or - a bit. Ambient temp about 70F. Lots of rain to and from Northern Cal. Flog Mog dry and loads of fun. Tcherek was My Navigator.

„I'm driving 2,500 miles on the side“... you're a hero, Button. BTW isn't such an exciting navigator at your side a much nicer experience than a conversation about hot air? thumbs
