i'm renewing the water hoses on my 1.6cvh engine 4/4 and i'm utterly stumped trying to find a replacement one of these.

can anyone tell me what its called please as no matter what search terms i try i cant find anything similar.

I've always called it a coolant crossover or bypass pipe. I believe it's to ensure hot water gets to the inlet manifold even when the heater is turned off. A simple job to solder one up from copper plumbing pipe, I don't think the angle is critical.

Tim`s description works for me. I call it a heater by-pass. I know little to nothing of fluid dynamics but suspect the angle may well play a part in such calculations, given how much simpler it would be to manufacture the by-pass as a straight link..? Perhaps best to note the angle in relation to flow and return, or at least replace it in the same way it was removed, assuming it was fitted correctly in the first place..?

Yup a couple of "T" copper plumbing fittings would do the job to some degree and better than a leaking and corroded pipe, which the one on my +8 was... Had to clean it up a tad as Rutters had no stock in the recent past, but was seeking to have a batch made up in time.

I suspect if one was really stuck just joining the pipes straight through would keep you on the road, though best NOT to switch the heater isolation valve off as that would inhibit coolant circulation.... You may also need to bleed the system if you find that the heater does not warm up..?

thanks for the replies, thats the part, yet again though i wish i had listened to my dad, he was a classic motorcycle chap of the old school, when he offered to teach me some metal work skills and to braze because i would find it so much more rewarding making one from some brass pipe than giving melvyn rutter the silly amount of cash he wants for a bit of pipe.

Bit of pipe? Its a bit more than that. Labour at circa £50 per hour (plumbers circa £60- £70 per hour), fabrication, welding etc etc. Does not seem bad to me.
