I agree that the cheap low tech "bafflectomy" is a great way to go, I saw the increased performance and improved sound.

It looks like there will be more companies making aftermarket ones and I know if I choose one now, there will be a new cooler and better one released as soon as I have something mounted on my car....:-(

Therefore I am also thinking about reworking the standard items until I have decided what new system to get......Any hints/instructions/photos from you guys that have performed this operation? What to drill? Taking out the whole baffle? Any vids of what they sound like afterwards?

Thanks!

Hi Swedewheeler,
Like Dab of Oppo (lee) says the best mod to a stock set up is cut out the silencer baffle.
My 2012 used to get very hot and the pipes glowed red in the dark. The engine felt stifled.
Using a 44mm hole cutter and two long extensions I cut out the disc that restricts the engine so much.
It took less than two hours total.
Just take off the silencers and use the 44mm hole cutter slowly and with some lubricant oil to aid cutting. this is from the front end of the silencer. It is now genuinely straight through and I love the sound.
Now the Mog goes better
Sounds better.
Runs cooler.
Rgds

Hi again!!
I just took my original exhausts away from the car and I think that I will scrap my idea of reworking the original ones.......

When I took the left exhaust off I could hear it rattle inside and just holding it and shaking it all of the dampening material came out in burnt little scraps (see picture), it must have been totally blocked!! The right side did not have this issue and just looking on both pipes outside you can see that the left one has been extremely warm, the bolt for the heat shield was stuck and the rubber bushing was in two pieces.....:-(

How Morgan in the first place could decide to block the air intake and exhaust in such way to reach homologation/noise levels etc is beyond my understanding......Poor, poor S&S engine....

So original exhaust will go and new ones will be fitted....Now it is only to choose which ones I should go for....Hmmmm

If you are running with your original exhaust my tip is that you check them.....Maybe you also have issues.....??

Cheers

That looks like the catalytic converter on that side has disintegrated ( can happen), nothing to do with the exhaust.
A few people on here have knocked them out on purpose to remove them from the gas flow.
Whether this helps or not is not clear.
Currently, in the UK there are no emissions checks on the M3W where a lack of cat would cause a fail - I don't know about other countries.
This may of course change in the future.

Hi Ian!

I just saw your post!! Thanx for the info! I have some more questions....(sorry)

Do you know what this material that came out is and where it "should" be? Is it one or two (or more?) baffles in the silencer??

I am again thinking about reworking or just throw them away and get new ones.....

Thanks for any help!!

Cheers
David
