Hello, the teeth are badly worn on the handbrake on my 1992 4/4, I have bought the replacement parts off Melvyn Rutter but it doesn't look as if you can get at the fixing bolts without taking the gearbox tunnel out. Can anyone confirm this please or are we missing something. If so how does it come out and is it an easy job. Thanks Ken

I think it is a tunnel out job unless you have very thin hands.

I asked my local Morgan friendly garage to swap the parts as looked an easier job on a ramp than flat on my back underneath, he says looks like the tunnel has to come out but says can't see how it's fixed in. I will pop in to see him tomorrow after hopefully getting some tips here this evening.

Mine's like this only a lot dirtier.

Thanks for the pics etc, after looking at it again have decided to cut an inspection hole to get at the fixing bolts and make a cover plate to screw on.

Some have done that to help with access to gearbox top-up plugs with success, DW had a guide for his Roadster

Mad question due limited time & rain. I thought my handbrake cable had snapped. Sudden loss of handbrake with lever going full travel.
Today removed tool tray to save on time tomorrow at garage. Umm only thing I can see broken is the cable tie that holds the near side (uk) cable to the chassis U section/hoop. Everything seems to move with the lever but not enough to apply the brakes. Nothing wants to pull out of its sheath.
Then rain came down which stopped play. The mad question is if the cable tie has gone so the cable takes an easier route could that cause the handbrake to need copious amount of adjustment to function. Yes I know just try another cable tie but rain was pretty monsoon “esque”
Whatever i’ll Report back after techniques have had a look.

Yes I would say that has to be the first consideration. It’s worth a try

If that doesn’t work then it’s the metal cable corroded inside the sheath so the cable will need replacing
