Well to bring it back just slightly onto topic.. one thing that was noteworthy (other than the sausage rolls) was the Plus 6 activity. The site seems almost completely dedicated to its production, they were everywhere in various stages of build.
Seeing the new chassis and half built 6's next to the trads brought it home to me just how antiquated the Plus 4's look by comparison. Steel chassis, floorboards and cart spring suspension rubbing shoulders with modern bonded alloy chassis, link suspension and drivetrains that frankly looked very complex and well beyond the capability of most owner drivers to fix, assuming they may need it of course.
The 6 is no doubt a cracking car in so many respects but its not for me. Give me the simplicity of the trad build with all its shortfalls any day but I can't help think that its days are numbered. It looked so out of place next to the 6's and I suspect they won't be able to live in harmony, too many opposing techniques and materials for the future of MMC I reckon.
Only time will tell but I'm glad I bought my trad while I could. [quote=SteveT Couldn't agree more. I think it is only a matter of time, maybe within the next 2/3 years, before MMC bring a 2 litre manual in the new chassis to the market. They have to be thinking of the future demand and where it will come from. Those current 30/40 year olds who may now be the foundation for future sales are not as chained nostalgically to the traditional set up as we baby boomers are. They will expect a car which is well made and behaves and handles like a modern sports car with most of the basic modern aids commensurate with the 21st century. Given the likely high price (70k range) it will need to compete with the upper end of the sports car market (Porsche Boxster and second hand 911s) which means MMC will need to offer quality and much better after sales service. A tall order but the new chassis in the classic body has a big advantage over the competition because it looks so very different and is a beautiful looking car. I expect the Plus 6 to be a big earner overseas and on the back of that the future of the company will, thankfully, be more secure. A range of cars reduced to just 2 classic four wheelers and the already successful 3 wheeler, with more streamlined production, might well be the blueprint they are moving towards, excepting that they may still come back with some type of electric or hybrid in one or both options. As for the trads, second hand values should hold up quite well if the above comes to be the case. Fascinating to watch what happens over the next few years with the new majority owners now involved.

I completely agree Steve. Whatever direction InvestIndustrial are going to take MMC, and I wish them all the very best, I don't think it's going to include trad cars for trad owners for much longer. I'm very glad I have my trad, and I'm even gladder it's an older model so I can dick about with it to my heart's content. I occasionally think about getting a newer model (usually whenever I see lovely smart new cars like yours) but I very quickly dismiss the idea when I start thinking about the implications of not being able to tear the thing apart should I feel the urge. Tearing it apart is not usually where the problems arise, its the fixing and putting back together!

Interesting point made about the ECU flash I also have just the cat back sports exhaust.
It would be nice for a later update as I thought the manifold and cat had to be replaced for full effect. DaveW had to lower the engine plus body modifications to fit the manifold which seems a lot of work if its not necessary.
Is it bad form to ask how much the ECU work cost? Not at all.. it was £195 plus VAT.

Having had a close look (but not driven) the Plus 6 at Berrybrook, it seems a remarkable car. I wish MMC all the best for their future, but I am also glad I have a simple Zetec 4/4 with all the options for fettling. The Plus 6 is reported as sophisticated with a much improved ride. However, the Plus 6 at Berrybrook is on sale at £91,500!!
If I was spending that money, I would buy a new Porsche Cayman 2.5s (described by What Car as ‘one of the best sports cars on the planet’) at £55,081 and with the £36,419 balance buy a really nice used Duratec Plus 4.
