Thats how some people described P&O. I think thats too harsh!! I just came back from my first cruise about a week ago on Azura And I think I like the idea of cruising now, the service was excellent, food was good standard, entertainment was really good!!Much to my surprise.. Anyone else been on a cruise? Or am I the only one on here

did you get given sticky numbered badges so you could identify the correct tour bus amongst the numbers on the quay. Thats what happened to pals of mine who went on one of these monster ships.

Kin, I've done a cruise with Cunard, P&O and Princess.
Cunard was excellent and as you would expect.
P&O, I've done a few on the smaller boats and one on the one of the new larger ship. The smaller boats were far better than I expected and very enjoyable - I can find little, if anything, to fault. The large ship (Ventura) was a nightmare and NEVER to be repeated.
I have it on reasonable authority that P&O are working toward a 2 tiered approach and are gearing the larger ships to affordable, family, easy holidays. Whereas the smaller ships will move upmarket and focus on quality and higher standards.
It was summed up quite succinctly in that the larger ships will not have black tie evenings, where as the smaller boats will continue with this tradition and, in fact, increase the dressy evenings.

Would love to go on a proper Cunard cruise. We love Cunard for that good old British Tradition, origionaly found aboard the QE2 . So cannot comment on the other services. For a family Activity Holiday you could go Royal Caribbean and get your Morgan Fix in the Shopping Arcade where many of their ships seem to have one.

Simon, I understand the larger ship tends to be crowded, especially during school holidays, fortunately for me, when I was in Azura, there were only a handful of children After I booked my cruise, which was very much a last minute decision, I checked the cruise reviews , it serves a useful guide. On this one week P&O cruise, it has 2 formal nights, 2 semi formal and the rest smart casual Frank, I've heard many good things with Royal Caribbean...

Just out of interest, I asked one of the ship officers, how fast could you evacuate this size ship(1200crews and 3500passengers) He said we could evacuate the whole ship in 30 minutes, except the Captain

Like Simon we have had a few cruises with different line and enjoyed them - Cunard, Princess, Holland-America, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea and our last cruise was en famille and with Royal Caribbean. If we are cruising on our own we prefer the smaller ships and last year we booked on Azamara for a Baltic Cruise, but had to cancel the cruise due to work commitments. We'll see if we can do it this year.
