Hi all, I know there are some clever I.T. people on here and I wonder if anyone can help me with a small but annoying problem I have with Outlook.com (previously Hotmail)? When I send an email from my outlook.com to an email address that previously had a different name associated with it, it displays that previous name. e.g. I send to manager@somewhere.com and it autoentrys as "Fred Smith", where Fred smith was the previous "manager", that's really confusing if the current manager is John Brown. The PC is obviously picking up Fred Smith from an address record somewhere but I can't find it. I've made sure there's no Fred Smith or even manager@ in my contacts. I've spent hours googling for a solution but most that I've come across are for Outlook (part of the Office suite) rather than Outlook.com, or they have recommendations of functions that aren't available in Outlook.com. Typing the first 3 letters (man), then deleting the found manager@... doesn't work because there's no X alongside it like there is in the Office Outlook and pressing the delete key does nothing. I hope I've explained the problem clearly and hope even more that someone can put me out of my misery, if I had any hair I'd have pulled it out by now

Steve,
Are you using Outlook premium or the free one? It must be finding it somewhere in your contacts. Once you've got the incorrect name in the To: field, click on it to bring up the properties box and then click "show more" at the bottom. That should give you the opportunity to edit the contact details.

I found the only way to get rid of the old one was to delete all their contact details and re input with the new information, very manual but effective, running Windows 10 paid for

Thanks Ian,
I'm using the free version. Your suggestion does enable me to select the manager@ address rather than Fred Smith but does mean that I'll have to remember to do it every time as there's not an option to edit the details and save them. That is a lot better than I had before. Many thanks.

I think a degree of unusability is built into the free version to make you cough up for premium! Glad it helped a bit anyway.

Are you using the outlook.com app or a web browser to access your email? There are different things you can try for each...
If you're using the standalone app, have you looked for Fred in the "people" tab on the outlook.com main screen? Outlook.com draws its autocomplete list from a variety of sources. The most likely option (which it looks like you've already done, but I may have misunderstood) is to make sure Fred doesn't appear in your contacts list, and that his name is not associated with the manager@somewhere.com email address. If Fred is still in the "your contacts" list in the People section, then select his name, and click on "edit" on the contact record that comes up. You can then delete the record entirely, or at least put a non-existent email in for him, so that it won't associate Fred's name with the manager@ email address.
Otherwise, if you're using a browser-based email client to access outlook.com, the other obvious option is that it's pulling the information from a cookie; try clearing your cookies. If you don't want to lose all your other autcomplete information, depending on your browser you may be able to choose which sites to clear cookies from and only get rid of the outlook.com ones, so that important info (like the autocomplete for your TalkMorgan login details, for example) don't get binned at the same time.

In the outlook client that I am using the email addresses that I have actually used are stored in a cache. To delete one of the addresses, start a new email, in the 'To' box start to enter the email address, as soon as the address you want appears in a list stop typing, look to the right of the address to see if there is an 'x' which you can click on to delete it from the cache

As far as I can see there are two address books with outlook. There is one that you access via the outlook app and there is another if you use a web browser to log into your hotmail account. In my case there is a third one that Google collects and a fourth because I use Thunderbird. Sounds as if you are correcting the wrong address book.

Just as a little aside to this Outlook / Hotmail is very sensative to what it thinks may be spam. Email verification messages sent from tm-img.com are continually bounced and I have to write from our Gmail address to confirm email addresses of new users. I have asked the hosting service to look into it but there does not seem to be much they can do.

Peter, I am currently unable to log into or view any TM images displayed on here - ideas ? I'll revert to flickr until it's sorted.
