I checked my average today and was surprised to see that it had dropped to 6.4 /100kms. Can that be right?

No there is no way a punter can alter the mixture on a modern car.

The ECU gets all its inputs from various sensors and alters the mixture mixture as advised by the map that is in the ecu as it also adjusts the ignition timing again with reference to the map.

Well not on a GDI perhaps but on a Duratec fitted with throttle bodies and an Omex ECU you can play to your hearts content smile
