US $26,650 best Bid but NO Sale - did not meet reserve (Seller confirms it was set in the high 30's so a long way off)

Surprised to see the speedo only goes up to 85mph. I thought its quoted top speed was 110, but its performance certainly belied the racy looks.

Quite right M3W55. The "D" was not known for its performance. While the engine and gear box are beautifully matched in the 5 speed version, 130 bhp was just not going to cut it even back then. It was one of the reasons the car sold never once the initial hype settled down. I'm not sure what the real top speed is and I have no intention of trying to find out but she is a fantastic car of the freeway at 110 kph.......

Days of the "double nickel" speed limit.
I vaguely remember all cars in USA had speedometers that did not have any markings above 85mph. Can't remember what was on my hire car in Portland Or back in the early 80s.
So could be failing memory! oldgit smile
