https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-50212037Things are happening then , in a way similar problems to electric cars in that it will cost to install fuel stations .

It has to be the way to go. It will be interesting if this is though the Betamax of electric vehicles.

Maybe the answer is hydrogen fuel cell powered electric car charging stations
This way the charging stations aren’t pulling from the National Grid

Slight thread drift in as much as I noticed that the IPO for the Saudi Oil shares have been down graded due to the slowing of demand for crude. It would seem the world is awash with the stuff.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

Another option is to copy the current fuel distribution from refinery to petrol stations. Distribute hydrogen in the same way. That infrastructure works pretty well. So, create hydrogen production plants and have gas sent out by tanker and linger term pipeline. A pipeline exists for gas from Milford Haven handling 30%+ of UK volume. Surely far easier than developing a new electricity system .

Filling time for hydrogen cars is about 6 minute, only a fraction longer than petrol. This is where the technology will be a winner.
Hydrogen generating stations could be powered by wind, tides, or other green energy and could develop a very valid method of storing energy. The difficulty with many green electric energy systems is that they can generate power at times when it is not needed. For example instead of putting wind turbines on standby the energy could be used to generate hydrogen.

I also believe that hydrogen can be the future. It is the case with us that battery cars are being produced and subsidised at all costs under very great political pressure. Only the day before yesterday the first battery VW ID.3 came off the assembly line in a VW factory in East Germany. Merkel was there. VW is a half government company with rather opaque and mafia-like structures. Nobody of the politicians cares whether battery cars are really suitable for mass production (and mass usage). But there have been enormous incentives brim buying electric cars released yesterday. Anyway most people don't want electric cars at least until now. The infrastructure and logistics are missing. It is handled with the crowbar. At the end comes the big frustration.
The worst thing is that politicians are not interested in other solutions such as hydrogen cars. Everything is directed or should I say dictated. But in the end the free market decides whether products are attractive and whether they will prove themselves. Meanwhile it is so crazy in Germany that underway at the charging stations electricity costs more to drive 100 km than if you refuel diesel or gasoline for the same distance.

Yes , somehow once the ball starts rolling for a particular fuel the Politicians get inflexible which causes wrong decision making for years ...

Ah! Politicians..... They go with the short term “ look at me, I am eco friendly” mentality. Just look at the diesel U-turn. Electric is being promoted and funded but the issues it generates( no pun intended) re generating capacity, distribution, long term battery issues are ignored or glossed over with regurgitation of eco phrases re the “now” and not long term. Also there is the lobbying power of the vested interests. Oil, gas, electricity, car makers..... Personally I would go hydrogen power as it would mean simpler car mods on the lines of LPG conversion and theoretically keep the cost of buying a car lower. So, come on politicians....bite the bullet and push hydrogen more. Drop the HST and put the money into hydrogen power.

The attractions of hydrogen are very seductive, but until someone comes up with a safe way of storing hydrogen in a car it will remain a pipe dream. For those interested in hydrogen power technology, there are some interesting developments in the marine environment. Here’s an item from the latest practical boat owner ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2019/11/06/F6415DAC-280F-48C7-9928-910286479304.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2019/11/06/CE671308-92CA-4B77-A963-7743CAC6AF5D.jpg)
