TBM ....that's a nice looking cover ... just checked out their website. How do you find not having a rocker cover breather ?.... some of the Ford forums seem to think it would lead to oil leaks (but lots of what you read on forums is dodgy ...I should know, I write some of it ) will be interested in the experience of someone reliable.

Not had a problem - I've got the standard breather that vents to the manifold. The engine has been very oil tight in my 18nths/8000 miles and hardly used a drop (had a minor leak from the sump plug because it was fitted without a washer, but fitted one and haven't lost any).

I did some research about a rocker breather and catch tank set up but the general consensus was that it wasn't needed unless the engine was in a high state of tune, and run to its limits.

Tends to run at between 25-45 psi (according to the guage)

TBM ... thanks for that .... my car is an ex-competition car so is fitted with a breather from under the filler cap on the rocker cover to a catch tank on the bulkhead .... I'm going to do away with the breather into the manifold and route it direct to the catch tank ....and not bother with a rocker cover breather at all .... I think these early 'breather to manifold' systems did virtually nothing in terms of reducing pollution that a decent catch tank with a breather wouldn't .... and I prefer my inlet sealed and free from random oil vapour ....just my personal view ....I'm sure there's an old Ford designer out there would disagree

I was tempted to replace the tin one on my MGB (but it needed a lot more expensive work before adding "pretty" bits) and nearly went the Burton power alloy cover for my '76.

Phil, that's a very smart rocker cover. Look forward to a nose around your car when we eventually get back to "normal".

Goes back to my youth Graham ..... all the fast lads had the alloy covers ..... somehow, it just looks better on a 'sports' car ....the rumour that they muffle the noise of ticking tappets so I can put off having to adjust them is entirely without foundation!!

This tin cover is particularly ugly, with all sorts of bits of strip welded on it that presumably acted as pipe clamps on the original car .... can't see it surviving the cut.

Will look out a couple of old photos, but I think the tin one on my '76 was painted silver / metallic grey.

Yes, it was - looks better than black, but not as good as a decent alloy cover

But you can't beat a bit of engine bling

(Although engine could do with a new coat of paint!)

I'm spotting an electric fuel pump - would you recommend?
