We call it the "Vintage Sportscar Challenge". They really don't like the idea that there is an "antique" car in front of them and will sometimes take huge risks to get past.

To be far, with regards to modern vehicles, even something quite "run of the mill" can run rings around cars that are only 15 years old.

As Morgans have designs that date back much longer than that, I would not even TRY to live with something on the road? Now I know my Roadster is quick in a straight line, but after that.....

Not sure if you watched 5th Gear two weeks a modern Fiesta ST (with a 1.5 econ boost engine) - and a 1996 Escort Cosworth went head to head and the Fiesta wiped the floor with the 4x4 Cossy.

Now I worked for Ford at the time and the Escort Cosworth really was the cats pyjamas!

If that Fiesta ST was to take on a trad Morgan...it would be...well "interesting".

However, a PlusSix, would beat the Fiesta......

Honesty means doing it right, even when no one is looking!

2004 Roadster S1 3.0 V6 gone!

I'm afraid I can't see a lot of sense in having more power than you can actually use. What I want out of a car is something that has a reasonably comfortable ride but at the same time can get around a corner quickly without uncomfortable body roll and/or loosing grip. My days of drifting and getting through a set of tyres in 8,000 km are behind me. rofl

I want a car that is going to be able to easily maintain legal cruising speeds (or maybe just a touch more innocent) even on the steepest highway hills when fully loaded. I frankly don't care what the top speed may be even though I might occasionally give the car a run on a deserted road but with these days of speed traps and restrictive laws I don't want to risk huge fines and losing my licence.

I also like the idea of some driver "aids". I do like ABS, and traction control would be nice but not essential with the sort of power I think of as adequate.

With a naturally aspirated car I think a 2.5 litre engine would suit me better than the 2.0 litre engine I have, With a modern turbo charged engine, and considering the weight of a Morgan and the torque characteristics of a turbo engine , I think I would be content with a 2.0 litre engine. I would probably find an engine that developes 200hp more that adequate.

I would expect reasonably quick acceleration from a standstill and enough for safe overtaking plus good comfortable cruising speeds.

That's a cool conversion.

I must admit I thought the late spec BMW 4.8L V8 with sports cat and sidepipes should have been good for close to that anyway ?

Peter does make a fair point re over powered and making the driving less of the entertainment but I guess I am just getting old and lazy 8)

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

An acquaintance reckoned the trad chassis was OK up to 400bhp (Mind you, he was a Jet Fighter test pilot)
