The tyre in the greasy oily center of the lane is a big issue and I experienced its loss of traction last week while changing lanes from a stop. The vehicle in front of me had stalled and the light was green so changing lanes to get out of its way and go through the light was the goal, but once I had committed myself to the lane change I noticed a speeding car approaching. Naturally I gave it more gas than usual and the little beastie drifted nicely into the desired lane all the while I was steering into the slide headed in the correct direction. Darn, when the camera would have been good I did not have it on! I did have a passenger so the weight was perfect and it steered sideways beautifully. The weather was 50f and dry but I started in the oily patch.

As to the idea of a neoprene scoop to plow the roadway in front of the rear tyre, you would have all the makings for a Mars Water Bomber with nowhere to put the water.

I personally would try Blizzak rear tyre for my next one. Michelin and Pirelli would be the next choice.

The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 has been tried by some on here and gets good reports. All season, "A" rated for wet weather and a fairly symmetrical tread, seems ideal. I think I will give it a go at the next change.

Laurens I agree with you with the blockley tread pattern, at first glance they appear to ‘wall’ the water within the tyre & not allow it to dissipate excess through the tread pattern. They certainly make the M3W handle better in dry conditions and any damp let alone wet conditions enable the backend to step out of line through either throttle or steering (generally recoverable through either throttle or steering too) and it’s skittishness that makes the M3W exactly what we love - exciting sheer driving.

Always bear in mind how you would ride a motorcycle in the wet rather than drive a car and you won’t go far wrong.

Yes, I've had rear wheel aquaplaning twice this year. It happens very quickly (usually when driving in a straight line) and there's very little that you can do to correct it. You're just a passenger really as the rear end slides to one side. I would go as far as to say that driving the M3W when there's a risk of standing water on the roads should be avoided at all times. I certainly have a new-found awareness and respect for very wet conditions.

During our snowy winters they use sand on the roads which is a nightmare in Spring before the first heavy rains, has the same effect.

So what tires is Olga sporting front and rear?

She has Avons 4.00H19 65H on the front and Vredestein SPORTR 1C3 on the rear.
