On my 2006 4/4 the Instruments lights are not working. All cables, the stalk switch and the dimmer are ok. Sometimes they are working for a short time but than suddenly everything is dark. Also the fuel gauge and the cooling water thermometer stop working. So it seems all three a connected but I don't know where to look. Could some one help?

you could try and eliminate the dimmer by joining the wires up on it first?

although if the gauges go as well its more likely to be a feed issue.. check supply and its not unknown for a dodgy fuse the mess about.

The dimmer is ok. The lights come back sometimes for a while.I guess there is somewhere a relay that did not work but I will test the dimmer again.

I suspect you may have an intermittent earth issue..?

The earth is usually carried via a black wire that loops along the instruments before making contact with the bulkhead or similar earthed metalwork....

IDENTIFY one of the black wire loops connections at the rear of the instruments which may be attached via the instrument clamping screw.... Once identified attach a length of wire at that point, and touch the other end of your temporary wire to bare metal in the local area, perhaps a bolt holding the steering column to the bulkhead..?

If the lights illuminate then you know it is an earth fault...?

Do not connect to any other colour of wire...or you may blow a fuse..or worse..!

Have you checked your fuses?

Also check the connections on to the fuse box. I had a similar problem and it was tracked to a poor connection at the fuse box due to water getting in to it and corroding the connections.

The earth is on the passenger side bulkhead on one of the bolts holding the heater box in position. If it is like the Roadster the relays for power is on the PCB which is then a replacement job at c £500

Try whipping out the 20A Dash Module fuse and cleaning it’s spade connectors.

Third yellow in on the left I think.

Remember the Golden Rule with Morgan's: If it's an electrical issue check the earths first, the "Prince of Darkness" rules.

Hello,
many thanks for all the nice replies. The dimmer is working for sure. But I have to check the earth connections and the fuse box inside the car. The fuse box in engine compartment is covered by storage box and well protected against water. The dimmer is working fine that is for sure. It all seems to come out on a loose connection. Today and in the next it is and will be to cold to work outside. After that my temporary licesense plate will run out. Therefore I will correct the issue next year in March when my license plate allows me to drive again.

BR
Christian
