Interesting statistics..... good for a political debate electric cars...

And yet can be quoted as being 3rd best selling........ it's hard to believe that will go on for a year isn't it? When considering how many they would have to deliver.
A good reflection of how debates go I think.

I've just been reading about Tesla reliability. All that about no moving parts to go wrong. They came 28th in reliability study. Just about everything going wrong. Imagine driving along in electric silence and suddenly without warning your stereo comes on at full volume!!!! Fun reading, some of the faults are ridiculous.

I remember when Trads got approved for sale in Australia after being approved without airbags. For a while time not being available due to lack of airbags and I think 20 were sold in the first few months as orders were made and delivered. Unless the Musk guy gets some financial realism into the equation all these Tesla owners are going to end up like the Sinclair C5 owners with something totally unmarketable, I wish them the best of luck the fit and finish is pretty 3rd world on the one's I've seen.

I understand why Tesla made the first Roadster in 2008. People buying it were not comparing it to another supercar but as something different to buy. Rather than a new yacht lets get an full size scalextric car to show off at the next rich people get together. Probably easier to find a few hundred very rich people who want to buy something different and put down a deposit than make a small practical electric car to try sell.

A place in Australia blade electron started doing a few conversions back in 2008 including an early MX5 for a private buyer for $50,000 that was a nice car apart from no storage as the whole boot and bonnet area and the spot behind the seats was full of batteries. But when I talked to them about an electric MX5 they said no, they don't want to convert old cars but new cars and are now only selling the Hyundai Getz. I don't think the guy was happy when I said I would spend $50,000 on a MX5 or even MGB conversion but not $50,000 on a Hyundai as it basically a $15,000 car with an electric motor.

So Tesla is still going and Blade Electron is not because no one who can afford $50,000 wanted a Hyundai. But that was in 2008, surely a decade later electric super cars are not a novelty any more. Plus if the whole purpose of electric cars is to save the planet I agree with Peter that electric super cars make no sense at all.
