My service dealer was looking to charge for the first 1000 mile inspection service.
I was under the impression this was free even though I had bought the car elsewhere.
I believe a full service was carried out (i didn't get a copy of the service print out as he did not charge) which I thought unnecessary.
He did agree to withhold the charge until he checked with Morgan.

Am I right thinking the service is free or will I need to cough up ?

I was wondering this as just picked ours up and they said it needed a 1000 mile check but didn't ask if it was free.

Usually the labour is free but you pay for parts and oil. As a minimum the oil and filter need changing as the new engine is broken in.

Not a Morgan but our Suzuki Jimny has a 1,000 mile check whn new and that was free.

It was not a service but it was a check of the major parts of the car and an ODB2 scan for fault codes.

There was no oil change.

I would be very surprised not agreeing or disagreeing if it is neccessary that an oil change would be done before the first annual service as that is a thing of the past.

I paid for labour not parts under 3 year warranty .

My 1000 mile service (it's only really a check over) was carried out at no charge, the dealer also attended to a few bits on my snagging list too at the same time

I think I need to contact Morgan direct.
Tend to agree that an oil change is unnecessary with a modern engine at 1000 miles hence it's called an inspection first service.

I'm wrong as usual - rang Morgan and they advise labour is free but materials are charged.
And the oil does need changing.

I was so sure this was not needed, there cannot be many modern engines (and this is basically an American Ford Focus lump) that need a oil change at 1000 miles.
In defence I do think they need to revise the handbook wording:

'First Service (vehicle check) (must be completed on time)'

Although I agree that it seems strange that modern engines require an oil change, however for the cost of a few litres of oil and a filter, you will have the peace of mind that any impurities that may have been present will now be gone. It bodes well for a long life and I always change oil and filter every year regardless of mileage.

No problem at all with paying for the materials if required Reg.
The cars are far from cheap and I also have a yearly service on my cars (or sooner if mileage demands it).
Its the unnecessary ambiguity of what is included and what isn't that bugs me.
There should be clarity on the work needed to be carried out, if a full service is needed at 1000 miles so be it, don't fanny about with 'this bits free that bit isn't'
A 'vehicle check' should be an integral part of any service.
