Wrights coal tar for me although counteracts with Imperial leather occasionally. Reminds me of the smell of Anthracite when firing up the stove on my narrowboat Somewhat unsurprisingly, there's no actual coal tar in it any more, just some scent extracted presumably from a steam train driver's sweat gland. The active ingredient is now Tea Tree oil.

I am highly allergic to both Tea Tree oil and Eucalyptus oil. Makes buying soaps etc. quite hard as often something I like gets changed to include Tea Tree but the packaging is still the same.
Pity you missed the 110 special but sounds like a nice car. Imperial looks a bit more brown to me than Mulberry.

It's interesting that colours are all about fashion and Grey is now a fashionable colour. I'm not knocking it, my last new tiptop, a showroom spec'd car is in metallic dark grey, but a few years ago, well, 10 - 15 anyway grey was seen as a non colour, it was all about metallic silver then, now bingo, half the cars on the road are one shade of grey or another.
I agree with Heinz, choosing a colour scheme from scratch is like heaven and hell both together. My current +4 was pre-specced by Krazy Horse, who are not known for being too conservative, so I have matte red paintwork, but apart from my pal Budster asking me when I am gong to get the final topcoat applied, I love it now, although would not recommend it it for day to day use, as it cannot easily be touched up or have scratches buffed out. n For me, I do not like to have a completely free choice of colour scheme, whatever is pre-determined is usually loved eventually. Agree with your comments I think choosing the right colour is very important and agree some colours are fashionable and on mainstream cars can date the car or even make the car difficult to sell. In the 1990's I remember my father in law being told his Mercedes was worth less in part exchange because he had ordered white, wheras in 2017 solid Pepper White was so popular it was a chargeable option on my Mini. Solid grey is a very retro colour. If grey is popular now, have a look at the BMC colour chart from 1964/67. Out of 50 colours there aren't '50 shades of grey' but surprisingly there are no less than 12 shades of grey! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/11/29/paintcode-6467.md.jpg)

My Spec has finally gone to Morgan so the agony of choice will give way to the agony of waiting. I’m trying to give it a 60’s look.
Roadster in Dove Grey with Imperial trim. Walnut dash and wood Moto Lita. Black pack - but minus the black headlight surrounds. Black traditional 9 stud mohair hood and tonneau. 5 Black Wires. Louvered spare wheel cover - love that and think the price is reasonable. Wing mounted side lights. Baby Doll valance. Door pockets. Heated seats. Clear indicator lenses. Start button. Chassis rails and door checks. Union Jack badges.
Great spec. I also love the louvered spare cover!

Blimey, Posh or what? We had Wright's Coal Tar soap and we were happy. :-)
We use Pears Soap. You can put the last piece of soap into the dimple in the new one. (Yes, I am a Jock).

..I draw the line at my father’s Old Spice though. An aunt used to buy that for me. It sat in a cupboard for years... KevFitz has loads..! Is that because it, too, is left in a cupboard?

Similar happened to me, a colleague and I had identical spec’d BMWs but because they were in very short supply we had limited choice of colour unless we wanted to wait an age, his was in dark blue and mine was in pubta green (very close to British racing green). He really abused his, hardly ever cleaned it and put a lot more miles on the clock whereas I treasured mine and took good care of it. When it came to selling them he sold his instantly and for more whereas mine took a while to sell, purely down to the colour. Lesson learnt and I always choose a colour that isn’t too “out there” now.

Apart from the fact that the colour chart itself looks quite yellowed, it is very interesting how one had experienced colours in the 60s. In the 50s, at least in Germany, it was more like candy, colourful colors, also two tone , the car was a trophy for many from the group of the few who could afford it at all. They could dream into another world with their car. They did what I still do with the Morgan today. They drove to Italy, where the colours were also beautifully rich. Also the colours of the German Heimatfilm (these kitschy films with Alps and unhappy love affairs with the mountain doctor) had such colours. The 60s seemed like a radical change to me. I consider the 60s to this day one of the most important decades of the 20th century in many respects. It was the break with the 50's kitsch which was like a reaction to forget the horrible time of war. The sixties were "modern" cool up to undercooled. Also the colors of the movies were suddenly completely different, the colors were harder, often bluish, a very typical color world, e.g. in the movie "Bullit" beautifully to be seen. And so were the cars. This colour chart from BMC...if you look at the whole palette in a blurry way, it looks like grey. No wonder that there were more than ten shades of grey. Also the view on cars changed, it became more widespread and more functional. Nevertheless, the 60s colours were also attractive and impressively cool in a positive sense.

I believe that Pears soap is the most significant innovation since the invention of the wheel. I‘ve always wondered as a little boy, what to do with the small piece of soap left over? It no longer foams well and it constantly slips out of the hand. But throwing it away wasn't possible because it still had residual value. Pears soap will change my life when I discover it over here.

Soap, SOAP, when I were a lad, we just had a damp piece of Yorkshire coal to rub on your hands
