I never saw Ray Hannah flying to the best of my knowledge but that photo of him flying down the pit lane area at Goodwood speaks volumes, you are a lucky man

I remember and will never forget the sight at Goodwood as Ray Hannah flew a Spitfire just feet above the start/finish line....AWESOME!

I have been following this for a bit as well.

If you see some of the photography it is beautifully done. I followed a link from fuzzbook to the photographer

https://www.facebook.com/theplanepicture/

The banner across the top of the page is a video of quite amazing quality for those who love those older warbirds

Talk about a kids dream? A metal finish Spitfire all the way around the world. Can you imagine the pub conversation that started that project!

Thanks for the link Alistair that's a new site for me and some lovely stuff on there for the converted.

As you say it's a very ambitious project involving much bravery and a lot of luck, they deserve to complete this and I wish them well.

I have been very fortunate to have met RR`s then Spitfire test pilot who gave us a personal show quite a number of years back, I remember him landing and recovering his overnight bags from the ammunition bay in the wings.... Poor chap was killed in it some time later.... if I remember correctly in failing to pull out of a dive...Very sad.

Last time I saw RR`s replacement Spit it was a blue reconnaissance job, came of the short runway requiring ATC to ask the taxying Lufthansa to give way to the Spitfire... (-:

If you would like to see some low flying you might like to beam this up.... BUT be warned not if you take offence to the "F" word... I guess you could turn the sound down..?

I remember that clip, just a touch short of full on loony. Someone who knew how to live life.

I remember similar low flying at Compton Abbas in the 90's. Ray was flying a Corsair (inverted gull wing) and his son Mark a Harvard dressed up as a Japanese Zero in simulated dog fight. Both planes belonging to their Old Flying Machine Company based at Duxford. Sadly both are no longer with us.

Just saw a short news report from Goodwood. Showed the Spit taking off with escorts and doing a circuit. Awesome.
I am jealous......
