The Porsche is really nice but certainly expensive and would have a lot of weight added to it. I love that people are doing this type of conversion but not sure I could ever afford it.

Looking at https://www.electricclassiccars.co.uk I think the motors would be close to 4,000 pounds and 52KG and there are two, the batteries 1,200 pound and 26KG each and there are ten to make it 54KWh as mentioned in the video, I expect the 80KWh Range Rovber mentioned to be 15. Then there is the vehicle charging unit at 1,800pounds and 75KG.

That is over 20,000pounds for just those three major components and well over 400KG, i am sure there is a lot more needed which would certainly add to the cost and probably the weight a bit. The engine and petrol tank etc. would be removed saving some weight but that is still a lot. They have a MX5/Miata gearbox adapter plate for 1,400 pounds which could be handy for anyone converting a later model Morgan but would you really want an extra 400KG hidden in the car?

That is using second hand Tesla batteries from crashed cars making me wonder what life they really have left in them.

How much do you reckon I'll get for my '52 plate Corsa?

I am of the Colin Chapman school of learning, and adding weight to any machine is counter intuitive relative to the way it handles the road, and if one thinks of the levels of digital complexity built into modern machinery, that to just adds to my frustration... The first car I ever LUSTED after was a 60`s Lotus Elan, it had power enough to enjoy and interesting bit of Tarmac, brakes more than capable to match the power and light enough to be thrown into corners.... What`s more to want in a fun car...? 400HP and computerised decision making to keep it out of the hedges in something the size of a barge...?

OK so if we NEED to go to EV. I will live with that. More than anything else I suspect the weight may be the issue after re-charging, though as ever Porsche seem to have created a rather fast superb handling machine that may tick a few boxes for the sporting minded. I suspect there will be many others who appear out of the shed IF the economics determine that the Planet comes first... What a change that would be, well to date it seems the top 1% have no alternative planet to escape to, so who knows..?

Boy do I feel most fortunate to have enjoyed the ICE generation in the way I have done. IF EV is indeed the way to go "they" can`t take away that which I have already enjoyed, and at my age, enjoying the effects of the ageing process my ability to make mistakes has grown while my ability to correct them has reduced, so some sort of electric zimmer may be more in tune with my level of capability in the near future.... Just my luck if it runs out of charge between this armchair and the toilet....!!!!

BTW my dear lady wife pronounces that her diesel Evoque is cheaper to run than her previous SLK, and the Mini Cooper D she had before that... methinks there is some femaths involved..? Femaths..? The opposite of man maths in automotive expenditure justification...(-:

Had an unexpected meet up with an old school mate this morning at Caffeine and Machine - he took me for a spin in his Tesla. He was quick to point out that it wasn't the 'fastest' model, but christ it was fast. I've been out in some pretty quick stuff in my time (Porsche GT3RS, and have got a ZX10) but the power delivery was unbelievable. The 'auto-pilot' mode was equally impressive, with the car steering itself round corners.

The centre display was mind-blowing, bigger than my laptop and with massive functionality (although couldn't quite see the point in the ability to make fart sounds appear from each seat!)
