That's a "Dowty" washer and quite easy to purchase separately

Whilst I am a Magpie as far as collecting spares are concerned (Morgan law of car maintenance states you never need the part you have in stock only the one you decided not to buy) I have serviced, and now own, a Morgan Sport with the Sigma unit and have never changed the drain plug. Removed, cleaned, of course inspect the rubber seal, thin smear of Vaseline and refit and tighten up. It’s not a crush washer and fir a couple of nervous owners I have cross drilled the sump bolt head and the nearest dump bolt and wired the thing (totally unnecessary, when did you last hear of a sump plug falling out? For real not an internet ‘story’) Ho-hum they were the customer ;-).

I have changed my oil several times and never needed to change the drain plug or the washer O ring. Just inspect it for damage, smear a little oil on it and put it back in.
If you do need to replace if the head is damaged for instance then this from Amazon will do the job :-)

Hi Everyone,

I appreciate the thread is for Sigma engines but here's some useless info.....

The piccies show some plugs used by Ford and MMC. (None are similar to my setup, the restriction being the seating area on the shallow sump itself accomodating only a 20mm washer and bolt collar).

Top left has an integral washer, M12x1.75 part no 3051079, also used on some aftermarket shallow sumps.

Top right has a loose washer designed to fit, M12x1.75 part no 9L8Z-6730-A used on 3.7 Roadster

Bottom left has a loose washer designed to fit M14x1.75
Bottom right had a nylon washer M14x1.75

I believe the torque for those with rubber washers is 25lbft but will stand corrected. Bonded (dowty) require less.

Many Thanks.... My thoughts are that Paul is correct, simply reuse the old one but Colin has given me good info on the part.

Given unlimited funds, I wouldn't mind a sump plug collection like Salmo and 'Would you like to come back to mine to see my collection of sump plugs' would be a great chat up line for the ladies

All great information chaps, like we used to say at Volvo dealer training the only bad question is the one you didn’t ask and the same rules apply to information, what may look like a simple post can save so many of us a lot of frustration and money so never worry about questions, answers or information, for me at least it’s all gold.

52 years in the motor industry last September and every day I learn something. You can never have enough information. Especially with a manufacturer who fits what’s next in the parts box and has so many rolling changes.
