Osten has just called - he's trying to pick his car up for the shipping agent and it's totally dead.

The battery has been on trickle charge for 3 days and the charger says it's fully charged.

There's 13.8 volts across the terminals but no sign of life - no instrument lights, ignition, starter motor fuel pump.

He's checked the inertia switch and the 50A main fuse.

Also rechecked the battery cables which had been disconnected for shipping.

Any ideas anyone?

He needs to check the voltages at the inertia switch. I thought maybe the immobiliser but have just checked mine and that does not leave everything dead. The car was obviously running when it left the UK so it must be something fairly simple.

I can't imagine Osten's frustration…. Shall be something really simple. Maybe just a stupid misconnection from the ignition switch/circuit? We always think about something more dramatic, and it may happen that a simple fastener is gone from its connection at the most silly place.

Thanks guys, he's had to leave it with the shippers to sort out as he's got a plane to catch. He's going to talk to the UK shippers and the factory tomorrow.

Tried all the obvious power and ground connections and used jump leads to try another battery. Also bypassed the battery cables by jumping to the +ive insulated post and to the chassis.

He'd already checked the inertia switch and 50A fuse. There's no immobiliser and as far as I know there's no factory fitted battery cut off on the M3W.

The car was airfreighted not shipped so corrosion shouldn't been an issue.

There's basically 13.8v at the battery but absolutely nothing electrical works, not even the instrument warning lights.

Fortunately he's retained his sense of humour about this and is looking forward to getting it going when he's back in Dubai after Xmas.

In the meantime if anyone has any more ideas please post them here and he'll pick them up when he can.

OMG he fortunately has sense of humour…

When mine arrived to Madrid I checked almost everything. and all seemed be OK.

Yesterday it passed the ITV - Inspection Technical Vehicle "translated"… (I guess you call it MOT in the UK) - and today I went to take measures with the guy who is making the extra cushion and the luggage rack bags.

And the main long pin screw of the luggage rack sucker is missing. Totally disappeared. We guess the silly guys at the MOT tried to open the back and did not know how to remove the luggage rack and started removing the pin screw of the sucker. And now it's lost.

RESUMING: yes we need to have sense of humour...

one thought, my wife's plus 8 has a button device on her key chain that "kills" the engine.

She once replaced a dead battery because she forgot she had "killed the engine"

Think it's been already mentioned but try pushing inertia switch to reset. The M3W doesn't have a battery isolator BTW. If the optional immobiliser is not spec'd a link lead plug should be fitted in place of it. Assume this must have been fitted though prior to factory road test.
