The car was running before being shipped and doesn't have an immobiliser. Even if it did the ignition would still switch on and the lights work, although the starter motor won't.

The inertia switch just cuts the fuel pump - the car will still turn over on the starter and all lights etc would still work.

It feels like a bad connection to the battery so I suggested they try to bypass the main battery leads with jumper leads but to no avail. I suspect an auto electrician will fairly quickly be able to track down the fault.

Just to help eliminate things, is there any juice to/from the 12V auxiliary power outlet ? This is normally live even with the ignition off.

Allright chaps. I'm waiting for my flight to board and I ran a mental check list.
Car hasn't be started since it left MMC so I dont really know what could be the issue.

They did tell me that when the car arrived in the country the battery was completely flat and it took almost 24 hours of trickle charge to bring it to level

I tried with the guys everything we could think off to get the car to start but to no avail. I shamefully had to push the bathtub onto the truck.

I will drop the power socket request above but I'm afraid I'm all out of ideas here.

I'll speak to MMC once I land and if not I'll give a call to the former head mechanic from the ex dealer here

Stiff up a lip is still strong

Mine had a ground fault; the cable that connects the negative terminal to the grounding spot in front of the oil tank. There was red plastic material spilling over and insulating the connector from the metal anchoring bolt. But if this was his problem, I would expect him to be able to jump from another battery, so not likely his problem. Damn these experiences!

Surely they would have had to disconnect the battery to fly the car out

Worth doing a physical check on the battery cables, as they would have been disconnected for air freight and that should have been the only thing disturbed since it last ran. There are two cables for the positive and one for the negative on my cars battery.

Very frustrating. Trusting this is all sorted very soon.

My guess is they only connected the large red cable and missed the smaller one at the pos terminal on the battery 😳

Good point, I'd forgotten there's 2 positive battery cables and, if it's the same as mine, the larger one is red but the smaller one is in a black convoluted sleeve with a red terminal so maybe easy to miss if it's been tucked out of the way for transit.

If they had only connected one then that would explain why jumping the other battery to the terminal post by the oil tank didn't make any difference.

Turns out it was a dead battery.
