Considering getting some Garage 56 exhausts, just have a couple of questions if any owners would be good enough to answer.

What is the diameter of the can as they do look quite large in the photos I've seen?
Are they straight through with perforated pipe surrounded by sound absorbing material or are there baffles in there?

Before fitting mine, I was somewhat worried about the aesthetics because they are considerably larger than the standard MMC items. Other owners told me that I would get used to them and it's true, I have!

If they are glass packed the surface temperature must be low, wonder if they would look smaller without the heat shields?
Trouble is looks like the locating bolts are welded on the top of the can so guess needs the shield.
Anyone running these?

The guys at G56 told me they tried several different sizes and shapes for their system before finalising on what they sell now. They think that their system is the most compact but effective absorption system you can have. There are smaller ones but they are also quite a lot louder. There are enough G56 systems about now for them to be considered "normal". You could ask them for no heat shields and studs maybe Obie? The outer surface of the exhaust, particularly further back doesn't get very hot. Paul Rand has fitted a closer fitting heat shield to his G56 system.

As the object is to get the free flow without too much noise it looks like I would be daft to look at anything else, great information Planenut.

If you are out of warranty then the G56 system makes good sense.

It’s still in warranty but I would just put the standard pipes back on if I had to go back for an issue.
I’ve got a Golf that is Stage 1 tuned still in warranty that is supposed to flag a TD1 if the dealer scans the ECU which would void any drivetrain warranty, a risk I was prepared to take.
Wonder if the M3W ECU records adaptations it makes for free flowing exhausts, I doubt it.

This is the Golfs 0-60 using Dragy ,a gps device, will do one in the Morgan when the weathers better.

That's a nippy Golf, 3.51 seconds for 0-60! An "R"? My Golf takes a little under twice that and it's not slow. It will be interesting to see what the M3W does in the real world. A decent one should be about 7 seconds I think. I would say that the 40-70 figures will be pretty good for the M3W as it's overtaking ability is quite impressive and surprises a lot of other road users as they tend to think it's an old vehicle.

Yes it is an R. 4WD, 399hp and launch control it’s amazing how it gets off the line with zero wheel spin.
Like you say the Morgan is more impressive accelerating when rolling than from a standing start and to be honest is more fun than the Golf!
I should do some before and after times with the exhausts.

Here’s a 0-60 in the Morgan.
Difficult to get going without spinning up the back wheel not helped by a cold and damp road.
Also the clutch doesn’t like it!
