I've been looking through the current editions of the mags and, since the sun is shining, playing a game of " in a perfect world, which one would I go for?"

So, what do we think? Bugatti or Talbot ( with a couple of reasons) ooo

The T150 - certainly my favourite pre-war car. The front of the Bugatti is a bit horrific and not nearly as nicely finished/integrated as Figoni et Falaschi's masterpiece. The Talbot-Lago also has a sweeping curve that goes the length of the side profile - the Bugatti isn't as consistent. It's all in the details for me.

Both beautiful of course but it would be an easy choice for me and the Talbot-Lago tends to go for £1.5-2m IIRC (so a fair bit cheaper).

My favourite Bugatti is probably the Type-51.

I'm also a big fan of Voisin's efforts and America's beautiful Cords, Duesenbergs, Cadillacs, Auburns etc.; cars from that era were so beautiful and individual.

I think in fairness that the photos can influence the point of view, especially if one has not seen the cars in the flesh (so to speak!), as the one posted of the Talbot has much more of the professional photographer about it, rather than an enthusiasts snap!

I am not saying that these necesaarily redress the balance, but do please look at them in depth. thinking

Form follows function...

Whilst I do accept that the T150 is a beautiful looking car, I am not the greatest fan of the extravagance of the 'Phoney & Flashy' school of French pre-war coach-builders, I find them rather overblown - I would not go as far as Sir William Lyons who found their work 'indecent' - and thus, I am probably alone in preferring the Bugatti Atlantic out of the two. Heritage and the purposefulness of the design win for me...
oops

Also in fairness I believe that each Atlantique is slightly different from the next, so no two are quite the same. I think the T150 is slightly more homogenous though I can't say I've seen enough of them to say!

I'm terrible for form over function sometimes, especially with art deco era stuff. I also love Facel Vega's output.

I know I shouldn't, but I do love them too; especially the Facel Vega II.

Similar engine to my Bristol, which is geared 40.7 mph per 1000 rpm, though the Facel is much heavier...

Apologies G for the thread highjack, not my fault really! hide

Neither, I would choose the Embiricos Bentley, pre war Paulin design obviously influenced by Talbot Lago, British beef cooked to a French recipe uk
