Well I certainly hope he showed them the footage and suitable recompense was made.

Reading some of these tales makes me realise how lucky I have been in my 52 years driving/car ownership I have always been fairly treated.

Only once did I walk away from a Ford dealership and that was because they had left the top off the brake master cylinder, they didn't think it was a biggie I then went on to explain that brake fluid has hygroscopic tendencies but that went in one ear and out the other.

I know a guy who took his car in at 7:30am to a mechanical workshop, parked it in the street and walked into the service place. Organised the paper work and said he was walking to a local tool shop to look at stuff and will come back later, they said they will do the car first so hopefully it will be finished by the time he returned. He had two keys with him and remembered the shop he wanted didn't open until 8:30 so went back and sat in his car reading a book he had in there and somehow fell asleep. Woke up a few hours later so went back to the repair shop to ask when his car was being done and was told it already has here if the bill and the car is fine. They though he had came back from the tool shop not having slept in his car. I doubt the car left the street.

A main Volvo dealer once charged me to replace the spark plugs at a service.

It was a diesel.

I had a dealer sell me a car that I custom ordered with some specific items, like locking differential and the vehicle , a Ford truck, did arrive with the special differential. What the dealer had done was when they got the truck someone had changed the badges on the truck to indicate it was a 3/4 ton when in fact it was a 1/2 ton. It took me a couple of years to figure it out and it was a different dealer that pointed it out!.

The experience that JB62 had does not surprise me at all.

It's not only the motor industry that has this problem, it's endenmic. Once I was working form home in my upstairs office when the window cleaner arrived. He leaned his ladder against the wall, not knowing that I was aware of his presence, he stood by the side of his ladder, had a smoke then grabed his ladder and left. Unfortunately vechicle maintenance fraud is much more expensive than window cleaning fraud.

Our window cleaner tried to charge us twice so we fired him.

The next morning our front wall had been knocked down.

When I worked at a Main Dealer (many years ago), we put i.e. cut the roof etc. a sunroof (the popular "pop-up" glass type).....in the wrong car.....!

We noticed the error before the customer arrived....as we were deliberating what on earth we could tell them - the Service Manger - welcomed the customer at the Service desk and "said congratulations you are our customer of the month and as such you get a free sunroof". laugh2

The customer was overjoyed...the original customer (with now no sunroof) - had his sunroof fitted the following day. guru
