Maybe so but I cant help thinking the world would be a much much better place without religion.

You dont need religion to be a good person.

Religion certainly fuelled violence in the early days, but I think it wasn't long before politics intertwined into the mix.

Once the nomads in tents found oil in the sand...…….it took a turn for the worst. Without oil, the middle east would still be in the middle ages with tent villages.

So the current mix of religion, politics, oil and greed is why we're in the state we're in.

And the nutcases who seek world domination.

Nothing wrong with religion per se, there is good circumstantial evidence that people of faith are happier than those of no faith. It does however provide the excuse for the misguided to indulge in tribalism - the inherent human failing.

One in four British charities—nearly 50,000 in all—is faith-based, says Rachel Wharton of New Philanthropy Capital, a think-tank. Half of all charities working in overseas aid have religious roots. Such groups receive nearly a quarter of the total income of registered charities in England and Wales—about £16bn ($20bn) a year. Stalwarts such as the Salvation Army dominate the work in Britain (80% of the money raised by faith-based groups goes to just 4% of organisations).

There is some good that comes from religion.

Theoretically if we all go electric/hydrogen powered or certainly don't need very much of that black sticky stuff called oil then the Middle East will no longer have much control over us and we can withdraw troops and RN and RAF etc and things will be calmer !! Devil6

A dicey topic this religion thing. I totally agree that you don't need religion to be a good person but if we all ( and I mean all, towel heads included ) lived our lives adhering to the basic principals of our chosen religion/god or whatever then things would be a lot better.
The lack of, or banning of, religion in the USSR didn't help the people there much hence the resurgence of religion over there. I just hope we don't have to suffer due to Mr Trump and his outburst.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Absolutely we are supporters of the SA they are genuine helpers I think I'm right in saying 95% of your contribution goes into the actual work. We gifted each other for Christmas a place with company and a Christmas meal for 50 people in all and in todays world for not too much money, it just feels better about this time of year to do these things if you can.

Another Christian based charity that is quite amazing globally is mercyships .
