I have a 2006 4/4 where the hood is attached to the windscreen with lift dot clips which means that the front lip of the hood is exposed along the length of the screen. Anything above 30mph creates a huge wind noise as it gets under the hood lip and makes driving any distance with the roof up unpleasant, I had considered taping the hood to the screen with gaffer tape when the hood is up but would welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks

Chris

Check that the inner "lip" is inside the top of the windscreen - I don't recall a paticular problem with the 9 stud hoods when I have had them.

My hood is a bit noisy at around 50mph - below or above that it's not too bad. Doesn't let much rain in either, which is nice!

Ditto. Is the hood taught when up?
I have seen people use the gaffer tape trick.

I haven't found that a problem, I have noticed less noise and better sealing with the mohair hood (it's a multi layer heavier one) on my present Plus 8 though and of course it is far easier to fit than the neverflex..

Following some neoprene advice (!!!) on here, I tried a flat profile expanded neoprene seal , which tensioned the hood and closed most of the gap at the top of the windshield. However, not perfect. So now I have fitted a seal strip with a D-shape profile, it’s about 10mm dia . It’s a bit awkward to get on (rear studs first, then screen studs, then lift frame, then side turnbuckles and all press studs). However, it makes a water and wind proof seal and so there’s less noise as well

You don't mention if you have a Mohair or Vinyl roof.

Mine is Mohair and the noise is perfectly tolerable up to and even "slightly" above the speed limit on motorways.

It also seals very well with only the very occasional spit even in heavy rain.

The inner lip seal must be even all across the screen and I have noticed that it can sometimes get caught up on top of the windscreen surround if you do not fit it carefully.

As you are fitting the lift dot fixings check the inner seal as you go along.
