As a Brit American my observations from within; the USA is suffering from the same issues as many other democracies across the globe. Those awful creatures called the people are causing problems because social media has given them a voice, whether that voice is true, fake or just misinformed. Trump aside from all the points made in the previous comments is a master at self marketing and use of social media no matter if it is lies, jingoism, misinformation or egotistical he has both political parties on the run. The Democrats are in disarray with time running out to come up with a clear strategy and message, the Republicans can't control their boss and hope he doesn't do anything really stupid, so they can keep their jobs. In the same way Brexit has divided the UK so has Trump divided America. The ordinary folk in general are having a good time (although they won't admit it), inflation is low, fuel prices are low, mortgage rates are low, unemployment is low, job security is relatively high, taxes have not risen excessively, retirement savings have had a very good run, Ricky Gervais has slammed Holywood, they've all bought new iPhones and go on holidays, etc.. Most people do not like the man but like Button implied "who do I vote for". Not long till we find out

You'll probably vote for the guy that the Russians back via the social media, fake news, etc. The only thing is that they will be even more careful this time to hide their tracks.
Of course everyone else will be playing the same game both inside and outside the USA so in the end it will go in favour of who can best manipulate public opinion via the Web.
WWW stands for World Web Wars. Let's just hope it stays in the Web.

I sent the quote from Quora with Nate White's response to “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” to my son in Australia. I thought I would share his comment with you. And yet we never consider the ones who put him in power both politically and fiscally. There will always be Trumps always have been always will. Trumps come and go the idiots remain and continue to grow in numbers dragging the rest of us down with them.

JUst came across a great word "mumpsimus" - a person who insists that he/she is right in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Just thought it appropriate here.

I’m a moderate thinking independent with democratic leanings and will vote for a moderate democrat this next election. I would vote for a moderate republican I respect. I respected John McCain. I think Governor Kasich is a respectable person as well.
Trump is a disaster and total embarrassment to the office of the President of the United States. I will not call him president because I think his presidency is illegitimate. I do believe Russian influence in the election was enough to throw the election towards Trump in very close swing states like the one I live in.
I believe him to be dishonest, unethical, and lacks the integrity to hold such an office.
He has placed this country and the world at great risk. His relationship to Putin is concerning and wonder whose playbook he is guided by. He has weakened our relationship with our allies and weakened NATO. He has severely divided an already divided country with rascist and nationalistic views weakening us even more. Hmmm? Who do you think benefits from that?
In the name of promoting business pursuits he has deregulated safety measures designed to protect the public that have been in place for many years allowing more pollution of our water and air. He has allowed dangerous chemicals to be released and deregulated food inspection, ie pork and we all know he doesn’t care about climate change.
He doesn’t believe in the concept of equal branches of government so eloquently defined in our constitution as evidenced by his total disregard for requests of information by the House of Representatives. He doesn’t listen to advisors but only to himself. Not one of his advisors recommended he pull out of the Iran Nuclear Treaty. He didn’t listen. I’m sure he would be very happy as dictator Trump. He is a danger to democracy and should be removed from office but I know that isn’t going to happen.
One comment about our politics. Our country is extremely polarized for many reasons. A two party system of government doesn’t work unless there are many moderate thinkers who can compromise. Without that our Congress will continue to be dysfunctional.
Solution: Elect moderate thinking Democrats and Republicans and eliminate the influence of big money on our politicians.
I feel better.
The best to everybody.

Trumps assassination of the Iranian general right or wrong indirectly resulted in the unfortunate stampede death of 50 Iranians during the funeral procession and the 160 something who died when Iran’s military accidentally shot down the Ukrainian jetliner many of whom were Canadian.
Chaos begets chaos.

Can the mods please dump this political thread into the soap box. One of the nice things about TM is that its mostly a civilised place where people dont talk politics of religion

Howard, I'm sorry if my initial post offended your sensibilities, I was just trying to get some understanding of the situation in America from Americans Not trying to start a political argument.
