Just contemplating changing the differential oil in my '70s 4/4.
Looking at various options for the desired Castrol 75W-90 I have previoulsy used and most of them now appear to be synthetic.
Is this now the default option for the older Salisbury axle, or should I search for an older EP type diff oil?

If you contact Millers Oils they may be able to advise you. Have a word with Kevfitz if you need an interpreter as they are based in Wakefield!

Thanks, I was hoping I might find somebody who knew on the predominant Morgan forum? Especially as I am using one of those new fangled Salisbury diffs!  Cheers.

If you contact Millers Oils they may be able to advise you. Have a word with Kevfitz if you need an interpreter as they are based in Wakefield! No they are not, they are in Brighouse. Millers use Opie oils for their online sales. Cheers, John

I was hoping I could receive independent advice from a fellow Morgan owner & enthusiast, who has experience of changing their diff oil. Maybe when the Salisbury axle has been around for a while, there may be a few people with practical experience of them ? I can call a specialist, who will no doubt sell me something, that's not really what I was asking? Maybe, TalkMorgan, could just set up a list of specialists to call and cut out the middle man of a "forum"? Cheers!

I read somewhere that GL4 grade is to be preferred to more modern GL5 which contain additives potentially corroding brass used on old cars diff...

I can't help but feel that said fellow Morgan owner & enthusiast may well not give the correct advice..! The trouble with the internet is that people simply recite what they've heard, meaning the waters get muddy very quickly and then compromise on an outcome, none of which may be the exact information one requires. I'm sure time spent in a few quality telephone calls with acknowledged expertise is a safer outcome. Maybe you could then back fill with your experience to assist others, and maybe start a list of those specialists, perhaps..? It all puts something back into the pot, after all.

For 1970s Salisbury axles: Castrol do both an EP90 in their Classic range and for lim slip axles LS90 is still available though now renamed as AxleZ LS90. Both are as the original listings by Morgan and Salisbury, why are you thinking of something different.
At a personal level I’ve happily used LS90 for the last 150,000m; however whether it’s better or worse than any other specified oil
would have been, I’ve no idea.

Castrol 75/90 is a great oil, stay with it, why change?
