I am considering upgrading my stock 97 Rover T16 +4. Has anybody out there done this? I would appreciate feedback on the options.

I have previously gone the route of a straight "Fast Road/Rally" conversion, but this time I'm looking at fitting a 'low pressure' Turbo - conversion.
Sports Exhaust and replacement 100 Cell 'Cat' has already been fitted, but nothing touched on the Inlet Side.
Anybody got any thoughts re itg or K&N air filters?

My old 4/4 had an ITG, sports exhaust & super chip conversion. This time around I was also looking at the mog sport turbo or do you know of another supplier?

Hi John, I'm also going with Chas since he has already done conversions for the 'Zetec' and is in the 'Development' stage on Super - Chargers/Turbos for the 'Duratec' powered units.
Previously, I wouldn't have considered a 'Turbo' because of past experience with them, but was talked into trying a Volvo S40 T5. After two years of using it, I have changed my opinion of the latest generation of Turbos.
What was the main benefit you reckon you achieved on the 4/4 with the Super Chip Up - grade?

Chas built a turbo T16 some years ago and his latest spec one's take advantage of the latest ECU technology. He is racing the T16 turbo at Silverstone this weekend.
My old 4/4 was his first Zetec throttle bodied car. He has done a number of Low Pressure Turbos and they all have good reports.

I don't see the benefits of superchargers and think they are a bit old fashioned - they seem to take 50bhp to give 100bhp, so only gaining 50bhp ? Turbos seem much more efficient. Can anyone enlighten me ?

The super chip added power but it was very peaky & later in life it developed the fun habit of reverting to idle just when you needed power on a random basis.
The sports exhaust sounded good though

It may be a good time for patience on 4/4 and Plus 4 upgrades. One of the GM companies in the UK is developing and co-sponsoring a pleasant package that will add a more powerful engine (155ish), more drivability and add a 5th gear...all with warranty coverage.
Considering it should be announced shortly, it may be wise to see how that turns out before making a decision.

I'm a bit confused here. The Rover T16 engine looking to be upgraded is a dead and buried engine (I stand to be corrected if wrong) and was produced by the now defunct MG Rover. The current 4/4 and Plus 4 have Ford Duratec engines. How come a GM company is doing a package. I assume you mean GM = General Motors or am I lost in a mid Atlantic abreviation?

Can anyone enlighten me ? The (old) beauty of a supercharger was that it delivered across the rev range. If you remember the early turbos were like having a big 'on' switch once the turbo came on song. Modern electronic controls and low pressure turbos have negated these effects so that you are right that the turbo is now the best option.
