Hi All, Would welcome responses to my query. If I go down the front splitter route on my Plus 4, I am looking to do away with the number plate box to smarten the front end and avoid it looking too cluttered, If that is the case I would look to put a self adhesive front number plate on the Driver's side front lower wing where I have seen them before on other Morgans.
Has anyone done this and experienced any issues with the Police/MoT?

I have a square wing plate on my car and the Aero Racing division at Morgan fit them.

Strictly speaking they should conform to the legal font, font size and spacing and they could fail an MOT otherwise. Some MOT stations stick to the letter of the law so you may have to have other plates for the MOT.

No Police issues to date touch wood.

There are plenty of threads on this .
Some police are catching Morgan owners on newer cars using white numbers on black background.

I had a friendly warning from a Police check on stick on wing numbers on my previous Morgan 4/4

Strictly speaking they are not legal...the font on the AR Racing is reduced in size to fir the curves of the Morgan wing...I was also told by a member of AR Racing that they are considered Show Plates and fitted at owners risk.

I had no MOT issues but removed them anyway.

On my current car I have a stick on number plate on the front valence which is the correct size and font and therefore legal

I cant see many Police out with their tape measures but it is up to you..

It's a very simple choice, the black on white adhesive plate looks the part however if you were to have an accident and plod got involved you could possibly find yourself in the mire as they are strictly not legal therefore you could find that your insurance is null and void. I must admit, I ran my previous Morgan with an Aero Racing supplied plate but after speaking to a few people who had been warned by an inquisitive police officer I removed it. You pays your money and takes your choice !!!

I travel around the country for work and when the West Midlands, the number of cars with blatently incorrect spacing always amazes me.

The West midlands Police must have better things to do.

Reflective plates (Rear yellow and front white) are required on a vehicle above 40 years old. This is a rolling date, so currently applies to any car newer than 1980.

I aways hesitate to join threads about rules and stuff, there's so much conflicting opinion .... But isn't the use of black and white plates linked to registering as a historic... ie, if your car is 40+ years old but not been re-registered as 'Historic Vehicle' it still needs reflective plates?? (until you get far enough back for the black and white one's to be what was legal when it was registered... Pre early '70s)..... There must be a Traffic Division Officer drives a Morgan somewhere for this stuff. :-)

K

PS... The previous owner of my car ran round for years untroubled with white stick on letters and numbers on the black front wing as a numberplate

Sadly, neither of those meet the required standard, Craig. Raised digits on plates are an MoT failure.

Plus, you need to tighten the old knicker elastic a bit I reckon. That thing at the front has definitely dropped..!!

It's an old pic Steve, I've probably replaced them 4 times since that pic.
