Hot off the producation line, the pre-production Plus Four SS was out over the weekend at Oulton Park and Shelsley Walsh.

It certainly created a lot of interest and especially the fine detailing that makes this a special model. Sorry about the number of images showing the dashboard but it really is a work of art.

Oh, and the car goes quite well too!

It will be at Donnington at the end of the month.

@GLLHG: imho we have got to be happy, MMC does the effort of making something "more" of a special edition, than Porsche and some other sports-car brands do,

This must have been the one that shot past me on the M6 on Saturday late afternoon/early evening on my way back from Scotland! I had just passed a trailer with a large Morgan badge on the back and was tootling along at about 80 in the middle lane when it shot past me with a wave!!

Lovely car lovely colour, if I may be so bold (and some might say thank God to what I'm about to say ) the only current traditional car I would love to own as for me the details really make it stand out.

Thanks for posting the photos Richard (I took a few when the car was going through the factory but they are 'a work in progress' rather than the finished article.

I've loved Iris Blue since I saw it on an MGB I looked at last summer. It is very close to Porsche Gulf Blue in the metal and really sets the mood of a '60s racer.

Boshly and I had the pleasure of getting the back story on this model during our last visit to the factory (although he was understandably preoccupied with the collection of his SS!). Reference customer testing, I'd say the Plus 4 aspect is pretty well tested by now and the performance parts are all tried and tested in both the field and via the suppliers. If we were talking about a new model or trying to squeeze 400bhp out of the 2.0 Ford engine, I'd have a different opinion; however, we're actually talking about a well sorted model with a well though through upgrade path, with quality modifications from respected manufacturers. Time will tell but I feel pretty comfortable with my opinion based on the lengthy conversation about the why, how and development of the Plus 4 SS.

As for the Yellow detail, I'm not 100% sold on it; however, the cowl is simply vinyl (as are the yellow number roundels (that are missing from the MMC racer pre-production car), so easily removed. The yellow detail around the lower fairing air intakes is painted - MMC have done this to set the car apart - so would require either the delete option at build stage, or a repaint if you wanted them off after production. Again, this was done to mirror the racers of the 1960s but as I said above, I'll wait to see it in the metal before forming an opinion.

Someone asked about the Light Ash dashboard; it will be present in the production cars and again, is a nice individual detail.

Lastly, there will be a track pack for these cars - if memory serves it includes: Corbeau racing seat, plumbed in fire extinguisher, engine kill switch, roll bar, 4-point harnesses, tow hitch, white roundels and... hmmn, can't think of anything else but I may have missed something.

From conversations, quite a few are already sold - a fair few going to owners of the original, and/or chaps who race in vintage Morgans

ps - interesting factoid, this is the first time MMC have sold a Morgan with Minilites

I wonder if his heater control cable buzzes like mine does? The only bit of development my car needs!!

After 12-months MMC found a fix for the resonance in the fan on the Aero; therefore, fingers crossed they'll have a cure all for the twitchy heater cable!

I like the looks of this a lot. The yellow details maybe worked better with the almond green car from the brochure. Ash dash and togggle switches are great, I see the bonnet pins (from the brochure) are gone? The black centre lock minilites are fantastic. Same size tires as on the roadster sport and it looks to me the wings are the same width as on the roadster. (I could be looking for a set of those wheels).
If I could influence the spec I would say;
-Loose the perforated leather on the top of the doors and the dash crash pad. (Fine for seats but on the dasch will just fill up with dust and moist).
-Loose the extra headlights. These lights (and the stopwatches) are a hint to rallying? For me its a track car and the lights look out of place.(TOK258 won the 24hrs du Mans without extra lights
-Not sure about the steering wheel, spokes look too thick and the rim is made of?
-Rollbar and race harness should be standard on this car
Yes its a mix between old and new. Are those minilites and tires of the same era as a banjo steering wheel? Probably not. But thats fine with me, Morgans are a mix of old and new. Is the car worth the money? That will depend entirely on the engine, the rest is cosmetics that can be easily added to any morgan. You can get the normal plus4 up to 195 bhp quite easily. This engine should deliver its ponies quite differently to make it worth while. (MMC can call me if they need someone to compare )
Will the owners be driving a test mule? To a certain extent probably yes. But from what I have read this is probably more so in the case of Aero, max and SS owners. As long as MMC and the dealers support the customers, this is not an issue for me. I think that the aero range of cars prove that the Morgan customers can cope with this and it doesn't (at least not yet) hurt MMC business or reputation.

Good to see so many positive comments and I really do wish MMC well with this. OK, I have my reservations but as I've acknowledged before, clients will vote with their feet ( and their chequebooks)

I'm happy to be wrong here and if that does prove to be the case ( God knows it's happened before) then hats off to MMC
