I do agree re the additional training that should come with anything that is judged "spicy/spiky" however the real limiter is insurance and road licence.

The roads are public and if you do something dumb then your insurance will get whacked.
If you are rich and you can afford the car and the raised insurance and have not learnt then the second time it is likely the Police may be interested.
The requirement for the police to attend all accidents where injury is sustained means that they are likely to prosecute

Third time they are going to be less polite and you be on a ban.

I think it is not entirely unreasonable as it stands?

A test any test, on a closed road will ever occur..it is just way to difficult to organise/get passed H&S and insurance (liability). You also cannot test/check people on a track/airfield either ...as that is not real life i.e. has none of the usual road conditions! However, a track day, would benefit those who are actually interested and want to improve their driving ability.

The thing is Bob, we don't know how the average 90 (ageism?) would get on, as we cannot "see" talent - nor "ability" or even "commonsense" and it certainly cannot be measured?

I remember well when I worked at the Ford Dealer in the 80's - a customer came to pick up his brand new Mk III Escort (now if this was the 1.3 version it would have had circa 60BHP). Within the first 15 feet of ownership - he had hit hit the corner of the showroom and smashed the showroom window.

Being an idiot is interesting in that I spun my 4/4 at about 25 mph exiting a round about, with those original continentals fitted. I stopped it doing the 360deg but it still had a little momentum so hit near side barrier. (£10500 damage)
In the conditions wetish +9c. I would never have thought traction would be so poor. (Could not see any petrol or diesel spill)
Is the plus 6 in that territory. If so Morgan need to seriously look into traction control.

Continental make some good tyres, but the standard Contis on the 4/4 are rubbish, memorably described by Henry Catchpole in EVO as "trailer tyres". They are not very good but acceptable on a dry surface. With the slightest hint of dampness there is a transition, without warning, from minimal grip to zero. I am glad I switched to Vredesteins. Much better.

This site shows more pictures, wheels are about 8 meters in front of the car. Most important message is that driver is ok. It struch me how deformed the steering wheel is. The crash location is about 500 m from the dealership and it is a straight road.
I sat in the car at the dealer at the launch event and admired it again when it was next to my morgan when I had mine in for service.

Good news? The report, in translation, says that the driver was rushed to hospital in critical condition, and then that it is not clear how he is doing.

I have never seen that BOTH wheels from a car -in such type of accident- have fallen off and are 8m in front of the car!
I don´t hope that there is a problem with the structure of the new chassis.

I have the same thoughts it's a very sobering picture, it looks like one wheel has taken part of the steering rack with it too and at 500 mtrs from the showroom unless the car failed in some way he must have been going crazy to do this much damage. As I said before thank God he didn't hit a cyclist or any other vehicle.

The police will have calculated his speed by now I imagine and that would be an interesting figure to know.

I wonder if he had some sort of medical emergency that caused him to lose control and crash?
