Crovie and Gamrie, North East Scotland.

Cliff side fishing villages trapped in a time gone by. Crovie doesn’t even have any streets, just one road down and the rest accessible by foot or boat only.
The villages are about a mile apart, at low tide it’s safe to walk along the shore between them and return on the newly surface cliff top path.

As a citizen of the Continent I do not fully understand the different number plates in the UK.
Here a number plate is an official „document“, issued by the authorities to identify the car on the street.
Any adaptions or alterations on a number plate are illegal.

Here we have a simpler regime-- Number plates start with the year split into ist and second half - then the first and last letters of the county name with major ones having just one letter such as "D" for Dublin then the number sequentially . There are some anomolies so as to differentiate between counties with similar first and last letters - hence my reg is WX for Wexford to differentiate from "WD" which is the neighbouring county of Waterford. Basically you always know the age and county location of the registration -- Simples!!!

UK plates follow a system of age and geography tho it's less easy to follow ...it's complicated by the fact that you can retain a plate you're attached to or buy a plate you like but that's only a small number in the scheme of things.

The plates ewn has(the old style black/silver) should strictly really only be for pre '72 cars and cars registered as historic under the 40 year rule .... however, they look right on a Morgan and i think the chance of him getting booked for it are remote.... why not? It's his licence smile

in the USA we have 50 different states with different regulations. But I think they all have "vanity plates" (at an extra charge) in which you can personalize the plate. So my M3W is "M3W RM".

rcmatt ..... UK 'personalised' plates aren't quite the same as US ones, in that you can't just have whatever you want but you can buy a plate in the standard format that happens to spell out something relevant to you.

I remember when I lived in Santa Cruz, a guy used to cut around town in a silver XK120 with the numberplate 'lines' ....a nod to his intake of columbian marching powder (allegedly)....in the UK you'd have to find the nearest standard plate and hope it was for sale by its current owner.

Up at St John's Kirk? ..... there's some great 1600s tombstones there with the old mortality symbols ..... whenever I go there I'm always disappointed the fussy victorians removed the skulls of the defeated Vikings from the niches in the walls ..... another great pic ...have sailed in and out of there a few times!!

Sorry Keith, it was even further away than that, I cheated, it was a virus virtual visit, the picture hangs in my garage laugh2

When I’m allowed out to play, I’ll seek out that church yard, sounds like an interesting place. In the meantime, I can sit in the car and dream.

I bought the photograph at a charity shop last year, it’s an excellent shot and printed on canvas. I dropped off a whole trailer load of clothes, toys and furniture, in the great clear out of 2019 and all I bought was that...I still had to hide it from my wife

Cracking garage! ..... makes mine look like a pit! (Tho once the resto is more under way and I stop spraying tools and bits about like a demented thing I'll give it a tidy. ) ....you even have a trophy cabinet !

That's the view you get from the ruined church ...worth a visit.
