Digging around in old storage boxes I came across some old car mags.
This one was interesting and 47 years old


Motor were not completely blown away by the V8


But I love the old adverts British Leyland considered it was the dogs do-da's

I recognise the driver of the b on the cover. It was his review of the MOG plus 8 that made me determined to own one ....although it took a good few years and via an v8mgbgt funnily enough.

In the same mag is an hilarious article on how he bought and swiftly wrote off a Ferrari 330GT.

In 1973 the average wage for men was £40.90 a week so the DB4 cost roughly 6 month's work. On that basis it would be roughly £20,000 today.

John Bolster used to wear a hat like that - perhaps they all did?

It was John Bolster that I had in mind.
I could easily be wrong though.....I often am.....

Johncc, jeez wish you had not posted that as I just spent some time in the study looking at way too many old club and classic car mags, workshop manuals, of which I still have too large a collection... even though I gave hundreds of m/cycle and classic car mags away to the kid across the way who might have interest in such things over the last year or so, in truth it felt like I was giving part of myself away, but I suspect there comes a time when it is perhaps best to think of clearing up ones "rubbish" at least to some extent...(-:

I still have Triumph publications such as TR2 handbook and a couple of TR parts books that were dealership issue, Original Ring bound Lotus Elan workshop manual, some old prints of paintings of gold leaf Loti in action, Porsche 911 sales catalogues, 80`s Oselli tuning manual, copies of Christorphous and PCGB mags, and way too many Classic & Sports Car mags and the their sister mag Classic Car, though seems I must have ditched all the older Motor Sport and Motor Cycle mags.... I even still have a few mags in which my cars appeared in articles, Lotus, Porsche and Morgan..all spread over a period of a few years..Some of that stuff I have not even flicked through the pages of in many a year until this afternoon...!!!

Gosh. Next thing you will be flicking through letters from old girl friends. And that will be even more dangerous - particularly if SWMBO finds out.

Car was a foundation of my petrol problem. Nowadays I would probably sue them for damages in this puritanical climate.

I used to study every page for ages, I still regret when I got rid of the huge stack of them. I remember so many of the articles by LJKS and all of the people who contributed to my learning. The three Lambos back to the UK article was sensational. I still think the Jalpa was unfairly ignored. I guess I judge the press by the high standards of that time which is unfair but it was so good.
