Oh yes of course.. because calling it Coronavirus is racist against Coronas!

I think they have misread the reason as Corona is Latin for crown identifying the spikes bits on the virus

I also think there are lots of coronavirus’s which is why they probably want to identify this particular one more specifically

It's a serious topic that should not be made fun of, but this politically correct renaming is what I make fun of. Here it can also be read and more topics:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/11/world/asia/coronavirus-china.html?searchResultPosition=2

There was a quite good reader comment on that article:

I suppose if we should not refer to it as the Wuhan coronavirus, we should not refer to it as Trump's wall, as both names references the true origins.

C'mon folks, this virus is serious business.
To paraphrase my mother:
Sticks and stones will break my bones,
But names will never harm me.

Instead of the name game, how about focusing on yesterday's excellent piece, "The Urgent Questions Scientists Are Asking About Coronavirus"

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/10/opinion/coronavirus-china-research.html

And I thought the renaming would take place so that the delicious Mexican beer would not be denigrated.

To be very serious again, this report shows all the medical and also the social complications that can occur.
The decision to keep all passengers on board is a desperate attempt to keep the virus out. But if the virus is so aggressive it is very likely that soon most of the 3500 souls on board will test positive.

Well the last thing in the world I would ever want is a trip on a cruise ship I'm not at all keen on mass humanity in a confined space and this BBC article sums it up nicely Are cruise ships really 'floating petri dishes'?

I do appreciate this is good holiday for those social people though.

I must say that containment like that has no appeal whatsoever to us either. But many enjoy the food and drink fest these things offer, and the social side.

What surprises me is when the link to a story is removed even though the statements made there may be different. In one case posts from one site were immediately banned from twitter. i'm not sure if such a procedure has a calming effect.

I share Rich's views on cruise ships, but I know that for many a 10 day cruise would be far more attractive than 10 days in a Morgan.
I'll keep the Morgan.

The Covid 19 epidemic serves as a stark reminder that we exist on this planet and like the billions of other species here, we have no special tenure.
I suspect that Covid 19 will leave its mark, but it will not be the end of the world.
But I'm only a scientist, so could be wrong.

The count of cases in China jumped to 60K today. So much for yesterday's report that the rate of infection was declining.

I for one will be happy if they stop all flights from China to here, 1000 a day trying to bail out to NZ at present , this has got a long way to go
