I have a 1983 4/4 with a CVH engine fed by a 32/34 DFT carburettor, the car has done just over 50,000 miles, I have noticed the lack of performance and the MPG has decreased from 30 MPG to 24 MPG, there is a a black stain on the carburettor just below the K&N filter and the plugs are black but not wet. I was told that a service kit costs around £50.00, a replacement auto choke mechanism about £100.00 and around £90.00 + Vat for vapour cleaning plus postage each way. In view of that I feel it would be more prudent to replace the carburettor with a brand new Webcon. My question is has anybody had any problems with the Spanish built Webcom Carburettor with a manual choke as appose to the original Italian Weber Carburettor with an automatic choke?. Are they any better, Any advise would be most welcome.

thanks

I had a sticking choke on my CVH. A bit of oil on every joint of the choke mechanism and a squirt of WD40 in the hard to reach bits seems to have sorted it.
